Default Rear parking sensor faulty

Hi all,

Just took my XK for service today.
One of the issues I have is a message when I reverse. It starts beeping then shows" Parking assist not available, contact your dealership"
The garage said one of the sensors registered faulty and quoted £250 for replacement. That sounds a bit steep to me!
How difficult a job would it be? Do you need to remove bumper or need to encode the sensors? Opinions welcome

Thanks

Yes you need to remove the bumper cover per the service manual. I haven't done it on the XK but on my XJ, I was able to partially remove the bumper cover and reach in but it was a lot of blind work and if doing it again, I'd just remove it. Always a good idea to have an extra set of hands pulling the cover to keep from scratching it up. Not knowing your skill set, it's hard to say if it's "difficult." With an extra set of hands to R&R the cover, its easy imo.
You will also need to paint match the sensor.

The procedure is:

1. identify the faulty sensor
2. paint match new sensor
3. remove rear bumper
4. fit replacement sensor
5. refit rear bumper
6. check for errors

I don't think 250 UKP is unreasonable for the work involved but I'd certainly DiY for considerably less.
