Default Rear quarter window trim

Hi all, has anyone successfully removed the rear window trim? Unfortunately there is a little corrosion that requires attention and painting so no choice but to remove. Prefer obviously not to replace it if able to remove without damage. Thanks

Hi Graham

Thanks for responding, you are correct with the arrow. Its the trim around the side glass behind the driver. Do you know if this can be removed without damage? Thanks Paul

Paul,

It's only a single bolt to release the Rear Quarter Glass:

With the glass removed I expect the stainless steel surround trim fixings would be visible. Unfortunately there's nothing on this in the Workshop Manual.

It's very easy to remove the rear quarter glass:

It's not as easy to remove the bright aluminum weatherstrip trim. It's a snug press fit, and you have to be careful and work slowly so you don't bend or damage that very expensive molding. From an X351 XJ, which is similar to the X150 XK/XKR:

He's making a big issue of removing the door waist rail in that video but it's a lot easier to remove on the X150 than on the earlier X100 equivalent. This one had to be removed on my 2014 when I changed the door handle:

However, the cost has taken a serious jump. When I replaced a door waist rail on my 2006 XK, it was under 50 UKP. The waist rail is now 162 UKP from JLR in the UK and likely to be even more in the US.

Thanks Graham for your help. Looks like I may have to be very careful otherwise I could see quite a sizeable bill.

Done that one, Now I've got the curves in the right places, doesn't answer back, sounds superb under pressure and looks beautiful without makeup 🤣.

The trim around the back window is held on by clips as I understand it. A few guys have removed it so maybe one will chime in.

I asked about it awhile ago and the response I got was that the clips break when removing the trim and you can't find replacements. I dunno if it's true.

I pulled the trim from my 05 Super V8 and broke half of the clips but was able to plastic weld them back together. I have no idea if the clips on both cars are the same.

When you so get it off will you please do us a favor and take copies pictures or even video the removal and reinstall?

Probably due to replace the seals if you’re going to take it apart. A leak after assembly would bite.

Paul,

You can put a LINK to a video in a post but can't UPLOAD a video to the forum.
