Default Window Trim Removal – How?

Hi All,

I am trying to get to the bottom of some wind noise from the drivers sider rear window / quarter light. I am pretty sure that this rear window has been removed in a previous ownership and clearly not been put back quite right. The seal that goes round this window (and under the trim) is clearly not aligned to the window well and the outer black gloss window trim seems a little loose (again guessing been removed before).

A local Jag Indy has quoted me to replace the entire seal around the window (this seal runs right through to the door window) – they will remove the quarter light window to do this. The garage seemed unsure on how the rear window trim comes away though…

So my question is - How is the gloss black outside window trim piece attached and how easy is it to remove / put back on?

Thanks very much

Dan

On my 2016MY, the trim was lifting a little as in your photo bottom right. My Jag dealer agreed it was a warranty issue and ordered the part, and replaced it. One thing that surprised them was that the trim piece isn't just what appears to be a C shape that stops at the door frame - in fact it is one piece that runs all the way to the front. I think that part was about $600. I vaguely recall it was some clips and the infamous 3M tape.

Their initial suggestion (before getting warranty approval) was to warm the trim up where it was lifting and supplement the 3M tape to hold it back down.

It took my dealership over a day to replace the trim around both my windows.

This is not a DIY. The trim piece will be bent/warped even during the most cautious removal. It will never sit right again. There are a few screws that hold it down as well. The interior parcel shelf trim has to be gutted in order to access.

Thanks again - quick follow up question.

Can the window seal actually be replaced without removing the external window trim pieces?

thanks again

Not a full tutorial but you get an idea of how to remove the window trim:
