Hi Guys,

I am having a problem with my rear window regulator on the passenger side.
It sounds like the cable has come off the pulleys and will not travel the full length up or down.

First - should I pull the fuse just to prevent more damage? Is there any other way to manually move the window ?

Regarding the repair - is there any way to fix these? Is it just a matter of re-threading the cable? Are there any parts or ideas that anyone may have to do so?

I am reluctant to just buy a used OEM because I understand that they are all prone to failure.

I think you should bite the bullet and replace the regulator assembly. It is a significant amount of labor to remove and install, and you really do not want to take the chance of having to do this again.

 

Does anyone have experience with the company uzd2bmine on eBay that rebuild these? They claim that they improve the design and give a lifetime warranty. They also have a 100% rating on eBay with over 7000 ratings.

I removed the window regulator in question yesterday according to the shop manual, all very simple and easy until you have to slide the regulator out!

So, back seat trims; fuse box cover, center armrest, seat bottoms, seat backs - all snap out apart from the backs that are held with 2 screws.

Quarter trim and scuff panel, seat belt mechanism and guide, unplug some cables and remove speaker enclosure, remove inner and outer window seals and closing panel (2 screws easy, one needs to have the soft top partially extended for access) and finally the 3 nuts that hold the regulator.

Getting the regulator OUT took forever - am I missing something??? It seems that mine had a cable that had wrapped itself around the driven wheel, with the window jammed about halfway down - perhaps this was causing the regulator to be too "thick" and not able to be slid into the gap between the body inner and outer shell? I finally had to partially disassemble the unit inside the car to get the parts out - removed the glass and then the motor assembly.

The part had a sticker on it from "Euroland LLC" so they must have renovated it before and and when I tried to contact them I was basically given the token "F off" response - took mental note.

I am sending it out to Window Motor World of Florida who advertise on eBay under the name uzd2bmine and have a 100% rating with 7000 reviews on rebuild/improvement... with a lifetime warranty! Cost is $180.

They promise that I will have my unit back in about a week. I will let you know.

The question that is worrying me is; am I supposed to be able to get the new regulator back into the car through the somewhat thin gap? ...perhaps if the new window is all the way up it will slide in easily? If someone out there is experienced with this, a few kind words of advice would be most appreciated!

That sounds like a pretty good price for that rebuild service, and a lifetime warrantee to boot!
I haven't taken that section apart, but I would think you'd want the window up, to give you more working space to get the unit back in.

 

Yes, new assemblies come with the window up, that is how it is installed.

Just received my rebuilt and improved window regulator from Julie at Window Motor World of Florida (800)252-2649

I sent it USPS last Tuesday and it arrived back today (Monday) Price with shipping was $210

They did a BEAUTIFUL job on it - replaced the wheels with stronger more solid ones, a thicker cable and it looks like an improvement to the cable guide. All super cleaned and re-greased and it works perfectly!

I had a similar thing happen on my X100 vert a couple of years ago, and had a place in Sun Valley (I can look up the name for the next time if you'd like) fix it while I waited! It was so cheap, I actually gave them extrra money.

 

In my opinion the replacement motor assembly is the easy part...to remove and install it is another thing..

Very true, a tedious job but not that hard. Helped at least in sequence by the shop manual it all went well. The only hard thing was getting the old one out seeing as it had jammed halfway down, making the unit too "thick" to slide up and out of the body cavity.I had to partially disassemble the old unit in the cavity.

The new one went in very easily and I spent more time cleaning parts as I replaced them. My adjustment is still a little bit out - I will have to rectify that soon.

Before you put everything back together, consider installing WhiteXKR's remote top kit with the optional rear window control (if you don't already have it). With all that you've already disassembled, it should be relatively easy to do. I installed it myself and highly recommend it. With the top down, raising all 4 windows and using a wind deflector really minimizes cabin turbulence at highway speeds.

 

Please also check my post in the Airbag Warning Light topic - I didn't realize this but working on a seemingly unrelated part of the car (this regulator) caused my Airbag issue - due in no small part to the battery getting run down.

From now on any work will be preceded by the connection of my 2 amp battery charger!

Hi. Curious how long this takes. Dealer will charge $711 about 6 hours of labor. Ugh. $550 for the part. Then of course $88 sales tax. $1,357 ugh

 

Took me about 2 hours to replace.
Make sure you keep a trickle charger on the battery throughout to prevent running the battery down!!

WMW charged $211 including shipping for the regulator and got it back to me in less than a week from me sending it. They have a lifetime warranty on their regulators!

Just had my regulator replaced but after 5 or 6 operations the window caught on the exterior window chrome trim and bent it. Anyone know where I might pick up a new trim?

Would I have to remove the convertible top in order to remove/replace the driver side quarter panel window regulator and glass? Thank you for your help.

 

No - you can remove and replace the regulator with the convertible top simply folded down.
