Reverse lights
I just went through this on my 2009 XK two weeks ago. When I was told by a friend that my left back-up light wasn't working, I removed the left taillight unit in the trunk lid only to find that it was a "sealed" unit with no way to get inside to replace a bulb. I took it to my nearby Jag dealership where the Service Manager explained that my only back-up light was in the right taillight unit in the trunk lid. The the left taillight unit in the trunk lid contains an LED rear fog light that the owners manual says to use only during periods of fog. Since it is a sealed unit, if that LED bulb ever burns out, I assume you do have to replace the entire unit.
Maybe Not; sealed things can be unsealed! I am thinking of unsealing the fog light and hopefully replace bulb/led with a white one. This way I can have 2 backup lights (tired of being told " your back light is out!") Then when backing up turn on rear fog light! but will have to remember to turn it off because don't have front license plate............and don't want to attract attention from you know who!

Seems to me that one could not only replace the color LED in the rear fog with a clear LED, but also connect the wiring to from the rear fog to the rear back up.
Obviously, you'd disconnect the wire running to the rear fog switch in so doing. Then wonder if you'd get a fault code? Maybe one should leave the fog wiring intact with color bulb, but remove the color bulb, leaving it to shine in some dark place, if at all. Then wire directly between the new clear bulb in the fog and the backup. What do you think?

Do the UK (RHD) XK's have the reverse light on the Left? If so, another option would be to use one to replace the fog light! IF CORRECT WHAT IS THE PART NO FOR A UK UNIT? and at what cost?
And FYI new TATA leader is an Irishman!!

You will need the lens off a 2010+ to do the swap, the rear fog has a circuit board with nowhere to plug a regular bulb in. You wont trigger any codes if you either tap into the wire harness & pick up the feed from the opposite light or splice in from the opposite light. The lense shouldnt cost too much.
The earlier tail lights 2006-2009 had only one reverse light and one fog light. Ugly, plus they used standard bulbs. The 2010+ tail lights have BOTH two fog and two reverse. Looks MUCH better plus they are all LED and no standard bulbs, a much crisper, newer look.
It's also an expensive upgrade on the 4.2 just for two reverse/rear fog lights and led tail lights. They lights were changed on the 5.0L model.
In U.K. It's law to have a working rear fog light, doesn't matter about having a reverse light. Not sure about other countries laws though.

I guess Im more of a traditionalist. A single rear fog and backup light suits me just fine... and the lights look plenty fine as well.
Not sure what you are meaning by no fogs in the old USA.

Fog lights are not required in the US, neither front nor rear.
Certainly, they're not required that I know of. But they are perfectly legal to use... both front and rear in most States, during weather conditions which will make the car more visible.
In my opinion, the Jaguar engineers did a great job in designing the placement of the single rear fog lamp and backup lamp, as well as the placement of the forward facing fog lamps.
In our part of the State, both of these are very nice to have during the Tule Fog laden Winter months.
