Default Rusty rear seat anchors and best lube for rails

Hi guys

Anyone ever had superficial rust on the rear seat anchors?

Giving the car a good clean today and took the plastic covers off the rear to vacuum and saw this.

All but the inside anchor for the (UK) drivers side had signs

Just superficial surface rust, which has now been treated, but worth a look if you live in moist climates.

Also what's the best lube for the spiral mechanism? Natch I'll be placing something under them to catch excess

PS: Forum search didn't uncover anything

Thanks for posting the message @MarkyUK , that is exactly how mine look as well. Looking forward to the input. It might be the wrong thing to do but I have been using synthetic fine machine oil. Yes, I use that stuff on a lot.

I had thought it was because my car, prior to my ownership, had sat unused for 14 months whilst estate was in probate and his kids squabbled.

Mine isn't garaged and sits out in all weathers...which is mostly damp here in the UK

As t the machine oil, share a link please and advise if applied by brush or spray? Ask as amazon UK doesn't really give any results excepting for sewing machines.

LOL, No laughing. Sometimes the old solutions are best/ https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/3...?rrec=true#spc
Incidentally I try not to use aerosol spays if I can source an alternative.

While I'm at sharing my secrets... I use this on all connectors in the engine compartment: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/l...9455p.html#srp
That way I can spray her down to my heart's content.

Mine are perfect and shiny. Course, I live in a desert in the summer and my car is garaged all winter, so Low Humidity all year long.

An old rule of thumb is things that slide get grease, things that rotate get oil. My vote is a light grease for a spiral mechanism ( which has two surfaces sliding across each other).

I'll go for so.e lithium grease then as have loads, and lets be honest, how often do we have to adjust our seats forward/back unless car's used by more than one driver?

With me its usually only the passenger one if I pick daughter up and has a surprise friend thst needs a lift...daughter inly 5'1" (American) size 2 so can shoehorn herself in the back for short journey's

I used some jenolite, which takes the rust back to bare metal. Just careful application with a 1/2 brush so you dont get it on the carpet.

I didn't want to use anything that changed the colour of the brightwork or might impede removal of the sest runner bolts in the future.

Tomorrow Ill be treating the spirals.

I use a product called Corrosion-X around the garage. It's a rust preventer and lubricant. BTW, while doing my "Rear Seat Delete" project, I knocked off the trim covers on my rear seat anchor frames and had that minor surface rust too.

Well greased up seat spirals with some lithium grease and defo quieter in operstion.

Also did the same for door mirrors which now fold/unfold quicker with no squeaking.
