Default Sat Nav Problem

I have a 2007 XKR convertible which runs brilliantly. However, the factory installed Sat Nav has recently started to play up. It seems to get confused as to where the car actually is and directions become totally useless. It simply tells me to take turnings that don't exist and to turn left in 200 yards and continue to the end of the road! Has anyone else experienced this fault?

All sorts of electrical glitches happen when the battery isn't fully charged. That's the first thing to check.

If your battery is OK, and you're still having that Nav problem, try removing the Nav disk, clean it thoroughly, and reinstall it. Then check the Nav settings and change them if necessary. You might need a newer version of the Nav disk.

If that doesn't fix it, try resetting the Nav system. See:

If you're still having that problem, it might be the GPS antenna. See:

Good luck!

Thanks Stuart. I'll give those ideas a try.

I NEVER used that in my 07 and still don't use it in my 2014 with all that outdated technology they used in the XK like they couldn't put the updated infotainment in it like they did for Xf 2012+up models when they gave the XK a facelift in 2012.It's a horrible shame how the Jaguar company neglected the XK when the facelift added more years to continue them and upgrade them more like giving them enough space as a Maserati gran turismo for rear seats so you can fit people back there. But that's just a story that we all wish for,So you'll be fine using your phone navigation on google maps and you'll be good. That's what I do.

ALLEN68, I have an alternate suggestion, but it's only of value if you use your nav system for certain purposes. Here's what I mean.

If you use nav simply to get to a destination, then Google Maps/cellphone - or the OEM system, if it's a battery problem - will do you fine. You can stop reading here,

For me, the destination is only part of the fun of driving an XK, so I try to find an interesting route to get there, one involving back roads (with a bonus for back roads I've not driven before). I like to build a route manually to include these roads. Ideally I would load the custom route onto a device and that device would provide spoken instructions on turns so that I won't be distracted looking at a screen or a piece of paper with directions.

The OEM system does not allow me to do this (at least I have not figured out how). Google Maps allows me to construct a custom route on a computer, but does not allow me to transfer that route to my iPhone. I have to print out instructions from the computer and look at them during the trip - not a safe way to motor!

However, Garmin GPS devices do allow you to load custom routes and provide spoken instructions for the custom routes loaded. You have to create them using Garmin software called BaseCamp but, once created, the route can be loaded exactly turn-for-turn onto the Garmin device. I used this method all the time when I was riding a motorcycle. Garmin GPS devices for cars are pretty inexpensive (waterproof Garmins for motorcycles are not), and I plan to get one for just this purpose. I realize it's another screen, which may offend some people's sensibilities, but we already carry at least one cellphone in the car, so what's another screen?

Thanks Bill. Sounds like a good idea.

To be fair, OEM sat nav systems don't stand a chance against Waze, Apple/Google Maps.
Especially when they have the audacity to charge for updating maps.
Carplay and alike is the death knell for OEM sat nav,
