Default Service Soon Light

Hello Everyone:

I am getting a " Service Soon" light that comes on then off when starting. How do I know what service needs to be done without a scanner? I read how to reset the light.

These car require an annual service as a minimum. Look in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, you can download one from the stickies at the top of this thread. Most XK owners on this Forum change the oil in the cars every 3 to 5k miles.

  • With the ignition off, press and hold the FOG lamp switch
  • Press the START/STOP button once without pressing the brake pedal
  • Release the FOG lamp switch
  • Press and hold the TRIP button and the FOG lamp switch
  • Keep hold both buttons for 10 seconds or until SERVICE MODE RESET appears on the display
  • Release both buttons and turn off the ignition
  • Start the engine to confirm the service light has been reset
  • Yes the picture was lifted from an XF ...but its the same procedure to reset the service reminder.

TIMING is critical or the reset procedure will fail. Here's the sequence as shown in SDD:

SDD is NOT required to do a reset.

JDOG,
Three things ALL modern Jaguars require is: a service manual, a battery maintainer, and a code reader!
In the OLD days you needed to carry a spare SU fuel pump too! I even used to show it to the Jag on occasions! these Cats are very smart!!!

Don't be so cheap! You will regret it............

Happy New Year everybody, from Seattle in the snow!
Cheers Adrian

Thanks Grahm. And you are correct, it has to be done in 3 seconds. It took me a few tries to get it right after an oil change on the wifes KX a few months ago. But muscle memory prevailed when I had to do it again two weeks ago on mine.

..and tapdance the tarantella around the room. Maybe watching the Witcher too much, but it reads like someone casting a spell. Eye of newt, toe of frog ...Try reading it outloud. (grin)
