Default Servicing.

I have been searching for an answer but could not find anything, we will be putting about 2000 easy miles annually on our 2007 XK. The past owner did the same and serviced the engin by the dealer every year. It just seems like a waste to only have driven 2000 easy miles to change all the fluids and filters. Are you all doing this too, or do you schedule service between 3000-5000 miles or stick to annual times service.

Also, I do like to preform my own service in my other vehicles, I am a shade tree mechanic. Would you suggest I just simply sent to the dealer for service or should I do it myself, and are there anything special about the service parts and fluids that I would have trouble getting?

I'm sticking with annual, as elapsed miles doesn't always equate to elapsed engine run time, especially if you do any city driving (you're not moving, but the engine is running).
Most things you can do yourself, especially fluids (just changed my oil on Friday night). Some others, if you're handy and nimble enough, can be done too (changed my thermostat and housing last year).
You'll find other examples and help for DIY projects within the threads of this forum, it's great!

Some people like using dealers because it makes them feel good to spend more. Some people like doing extra maintenance because it makes them feel good to spend more.

Change the oil when it runs out of time (annually) change the filter also if it's run out of miles. DIY it will cost $50-$100 a year.

I have a little different twist on this. I have maintained mine and my families cars for better then 50 years. I have been retired for several years and my last car I maintained was an old Ferrari and an old Volvo. I bought my XKR a few years ago and decided to have it dealer maintained and will do it once a year. In the mean time I will continue to maintain my wife's 89 Volvo with 360K miles and my 08 GMC pick up. We also have a 10 Lexus but other then oil changes there is nothing this car needs done so I do this also. So I follow the Jag recommendations which for me is about 4K miles a year. t this point in my life cost is not a big deal and so far the dealer I use meets my standards and treats me well. After all besides vacations what can I use my 401K RMD's on. It works for me but to others you need to pick your own priorities. Oh there is nothing to special about maintaining these cars except maybe some unique parts but there are after market suppliers for a lot of parts. Enjoy the drive.

Absolutely no reason to waste your $$$ at the dealer unless it makes you feel good donating to their cause. Your '07 is one of the easiest cars you'll ever change the oil and filter on. Whether you change the oil every year or every two is up to you either way you'll be fine, most all (including myself) recommend changing your brake fluid every other year... if you use a Mity Vac or other pump it's also very simple and uses a quart for the change so cost is nominal.

Check out the many threads on how to do it but it only involved 2 nuts and 2 screws to remove the lower cover then drain plug and filter are right there

I may be in the minority here, but since I have an extended warranty and I certainly don't qualify as a "certified mechanic," all my mechanical work is done by a local indie. This includes the annual oil /filter change and inspection, along with the recommended brake fluid flush every other year.

TNT... what does having an extended warranty have to do with your changing your own oill or your Indi doing it?

I would do annual service either way. Good to have the car on the lift to take a look around and why not just change the oil? You should do a brake fluid flush every other year or annually if you do a lot spirited driving.

I would use the correct Castrol specific oil even though I did not. I didn't realize that there is a difference from what I read... I use Baldwin filters when I can, or OEM.

I highly recommend using the dealer and not doing it yourself. The last thing I would want to do it have to get oil, a filter, jack up the car and deal with disposing of old oil. Pay the $160 and be on your way. While I am at the dealer I enjoy a cup of coffee, a donut and I check out all the new Jags. Life is good.

I can buy an awful lot of coffee and donuts for $100. My 30-40 mins time investment is my labor of love plus I get to assure myself it's done right and look underneath my car. Case made for both sides of the argument

I do everything myself. Most of the time general maintenance is quite enjoyable, but I like to tinker so to each his own. In 15 years of owning 16 Jags I have yet to visit the dealership for any repairs. This is only due to this and other forums. Many, many THANKS! My day with the dealer is coming, I'm sure.
Do it yourself!

This ^^^. Been maintaining my own cars since the 80s. Takes me longer but I enjoy it (well, the easy stuff....) and I like to save a buck whenever I can. However, I am new to Jag ownership and I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous . I have until April 2017 when next oil change is due so I'm sure I'll be more comfortable with it by then

It sure is nice hanging at the dealer tho, plus the free car wash is always nice!
