Short cut to oil level check 5.0L
I was just paging through the shop manual and reading the oil change procedure it describes how to check the oil after a refill. It said to press the start (no brake) and press the stalk to the oil level screen and then press the cruise control cancel button twice within 2 seconds. Go back to the stalk and press until the oil level comes up. I haven't tried it yet but will next time out.

A simple menu choice would be so much better but, who knows how the strange engineers at Jaguar sometimes think...?

I'm only guessing - but if you use this access method, if the oil level is down - it will just re-set and make the oil check indicator read full - a situation you don't really want.
Accessing the oil level check is shorter - press start, no foot on brake (i.e. ignition on) and then press the stalk control until the oil check screen appears.

I think the procedure you have quoted is for calibrating/re-setting the oil level measuring system - done when a known quantity of oil has been put in the engine (no dipstick on the 5.0l !!!!).

Some have said that it takes them 10-20 minutes before the e-gauge even works while others have said it doesn't work at all or the do the check in the morning prior to start up. I use the OM method as you described and it takes me maybe 5 minutes or more. The service manual didn't state that this was a reset but a way to get a measurement within the normal method.
Would be good to confirm what the shop manual actually does - measure only or calibrate the system - could be very important as the 5.0 is quite fussy about its oils.

When I check the oil level on my 2010, I normally do it before the first start of the day and then the oil level comes up immediately. There is only a delay if the engine has been running and I've been advised that the delay is necessary to allow the system & oil level to settle after running.

In the 5.0 service manual there is a reference to resetting the average oil level, it is as follow directly from the book:
NOTE: The following steps are to update the average oil level value.
17. Turn the ignition off.
18. Turn the ignition on.
19.

No, it won’t, all the shortcut to getting a reading from the oil level sensor does, is allow you to avoid having to warm the engine up to quickly check the level. Especially useful after refilling on servicing, you never get all the old oil out, so no one can quantify the correct amount to put back in, it needs to be checked while refilling.
