On one hand, it would be a car that would have some new suspension components and another failure mode (coolant leak) reduced.

On the other hand, I can back away now with only the cost of a PPI and feel better that I've dodged a bullet.
The coolant leak definitely needs to be repaired and its presence is not too surprising.

The suspension work is to be expected on any XK of that age regardless of odometer reading (unless a prior owner already had that work done.) I don't know if the original equipment struts actually need to be replaced but the original equipment bushings definitely will need replacement.

A potential buyer took it to Jag Palm Beach for a PPI. “Suspension is shot” “strut bushings are gone”.. lower crack in underbelly plastic shield.. it was never ending. They said it was a really solid car, no accidents and it was a steal at $9300. $7500 in recommended repairs for a clean 2009 XF premium that I offered for sale at $9300. The potential buyer paid $350 for this inspection.

So, did your potential buyer buy the car, or walk away after seeing the $7,500 repair bill?

Agree.

Agree.
The guy walked away. The next guy bought it with almost no questions asked. All depends on what your expectations are for a 9 year old car.

I agree. Some people should NOT buy used cars. I have sold quite a few cars and found some people expect a six year old car with 70,000 miles to be PERFECT. They are not. There is a good reason that a car that cost >$100K new can be had for <$40K now. If they want the "perfect" car then they need to spend the $100K.

There is no free lunch.

So, maybe he passed and won't bother with the forums again OR he bought it and can't keep himself from driving it at every opportunity.

My guess is it was a no sale and he walked away. Perhaps he is driving a Benz by now.

Gads, what a downgrade from an XKR.
Poor guy.

Hmmmm, so maybe "Drama" was the correct choice of words after all.

I'd still go for it. Lemons into lemonade is my profession.

OP here. First -- I wouldn't consider a Benz, would just keep looking for another XKR. : )

Second -- I'm not just lurking, I'm reading up on my homework, the technical threads for what I'll have to look into when I finally bring one home!

Turns out I (and also the dealer!) missed the part about the car having been previously CPO'd in the carfax. While that doesn't cover everything (bushings) it does cover the coolant leak. Nice surprise.

However, the car is now at Jaguar Huntsville getting serviced. Jaguar Birmingham was way too backed up, World Class got annoyed, and had the car shipped to the Huntsville dealer.

I've been told that World Class will have Huntsville fix what they will under CPO warranty, do another inspection, and then their own mechanics will fix the suspension.

So I wait, with a couple of updates per week. But, this is definitely taking forever. Perhaps it's my north east bias, but I'm losing patience. There are a few other XKRs that have me interested, but nothing that's caused me to get my deposit back on this yet.

Side note: the rep at Jaguar Birmingham said that Jaguar has multiple levels of CPO. Is that a thing? Some CPO Jaguars have more coverage than others?

This one looks like a pretty good deal for the low mileage...

But there are many others out there..

Well, we are rooting for your experience to be good. Also remember that the trip should be more memorable than the destination. Enjoy the wait for the car you wanted.

The long wait is over, the car arrived today on an enclosed trailer. The title arrived minutes later, the RMV trip took a painful 3 hours (well surpassing their estimated 18 minute wait time), but the plate is on and I'm legally registered in MA.

The CTEK MUS 4.3 should be here tomorrow. Fuse 19 will go soon too.

Other than that, I hope the weather holds a bit, now that I can start enjoying the ride.

I'll probably post pictures, advice requests, and I'm sure some how-do-I's in future threads. But for now, a sincere thanks for the support along the way, and for all of the info I've been reading the past few months.
