I’m a first time Jag owner having picked up my 2007 XKR Convertible a couple of weeks ago and love it. I had the roof down last weekend because, well, it wasn’t raining for once. However since then, the bits of the soft top just behind the windows isn’t quite going down as far as it should, leaving a very slight gap. It’s tricky to explain so uploaded a couple of photos. Has anyone had this issue before and managed to work out what was causing it?
I've never notices that, so I will go check mine now. My top is usually down, but since it's still winter it sits in the garage awaiting better weather. Up to keep the dust and such out.
Yeh, I’ve got a gap there as well. Nothing to worry about. It’s not like someone will be riding back there and notice.
Think I’ve got the stains there as well. That part rubs on the top mechanism, so impossible to keep clean.
What in hindsight I haven’t captured well in my photos is it’s letting in a decent amount of light and the road noise is much more noticeable than it was because of that. It’s not letting in any water which is a relief but the roof should definitely be going down a couple of cm more than it is imo.
That's not the roof though, it's just the flimsy interior lining. The actual roof is down solidly all the way around. I suppose there IS a way to maybe stretch the liner down a bit more, but I've never noticed mine like that so I won't ever notice it again. Plus, my entire roof is down nearly every time I drive.

If it’s letting in light, it can let in water. Check the seal on the bottom edge of the roof, it may be broken, warped, hardened, or missing.

I absolutely agree it could let in water but for whatever reason it hasn’t despite the rain. I am keen to find out the cause on that basis though. The edge of the roof looks perfectly good, really good knick.
I’ve taken another photo showing the gap and the bit of the outside you can see at the right angle.
Since you can see the light, you should be able to narrow down where it comes from by covering small parts of the edge until you block the light. Take a good look at the seal at that point.
To me, that looks to be more of a reflection than daylight. The roof seals above that point. Look again mostly from the exterior in that location... there really isn't a place for light to penetrate.
