Hi, I've a 2007 XKR (105k miles) and loving it, especially as the sun has finally come out in the UK. The car does have a few 'issues' which I'm slowly getting sorted but there is one issue which is really annoying me. When I draw up to a stop, just before the wheels stop turning the car give a little lurch or soft push in the back. It is more pronounced when the engine is cold but there all the time. If I keep the car in manual there is no lurch. It feels as if the car is dropping into 1st and the engine 'blips' slightly. I've just had the autobox serviced with new fluid and filter and the chap that did it said the old oil was in great condition. I read somewhere the gearbox needs it's adaptations reset and a battery disconnect will sort it which I have done but to no avail. If I was being picky I'd say the 1st to 2nd change is not as smooth as my previous XK especially when driving slowly around town and again slightly worse when cold. I've heard it is possible to get the transmission reflashed with an updated programme which can help with shifting issues but can find little information on this.
Any ideas?
Yes it’s the transmission. Has the fluid ever been changed? If not then it’s likely the fluid’s done. If it has been done, likely time to do it again. Also a main dealer should be able to do an adaptation reset.
. We’ve all been here. And though we can minimize the effect with good maintenance and TCU programming, it is never entirely mitigated.
So, in addition to the good advice received… @Spitjag , you have hit the nail on the head. Keep the car in Sport/manual mode and you will be happiest.
The battery reset does not affect the TCU. It does clear the adaptations in the ECU.
Glad you’re enjoying your ride! This is precisely the issue I have. I enjoy the car so much that it is very difficult to find a companion for the stable.
I laughed when I read the title of your thread, "Slight lurch when coming to a stop". It reminded me of a character from that great old TV comedy, The Addams Family, named Lurch.

My 2007 XK base convertible with auto transmission had the same problem. I ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in a tank full of gas and it went away. Coincidence? Maybe. I ran another bottle in a second tank full and so far, the problem is gone.
Just to be clear, ZF transmission lurches are well known and have nothing to do with fuel injectors. Also most fuel injector cleaners rarely “fix” anything.
It's interesting that this topic should come up right now. Over the last few months, I have felt a very slight "lurch" after I've stopped at a stoplight for more than a moment or two. It is so slight that there is no rise in rpms on the tach (I've checked while it's happening) but I can feel it in my foot when on the brake pedal. Of course, I have about 200,000 miles now on my transmission, and though I've had the fluid changed twice, it's probably time to do it again. The car is going in today for a number of service items at my indie mechanic, and I'll add another fluid change to the list.
Central Florida and sadly not really anyone I'd recommend. I had fantastic experiences with Jaguar of Orlando, not certain if staff's them same though. For previous gen Jags, I've taken to self service, for current, main dealers are no longer what they were. JLR have pushed hard to reduce operating expenses and are moving quickly to convert their service facilities for the impending all electric changeover happening soon.
As I need to go long-distances frequently and further need flexibility, I will stay away from electric cars as long as possible. Their advantage in terms of CO2 emissions is a fairytale unless …
Ammonia is cheap and contains a whole crapload of hydrogen. Make a hydrogen engine use particulate ammonia and have an exhaust of water while getting 30 MPG on a $1.50 gallon of ammonia.

Hi Viper1996 yes it's just like a little light tap, just as the wheels stop, very frustrating. I've spoken to my old Range Rover mechanic and they had the same issue with the 2007 on, petrol Range Rovers which was sorted with a modified gearbox programme. I'm hoping he can do it next week so fingers crossed.
Having the gearbox serviced with new oil and filters definitely helped but I'm not happy with the shift quality 1st to 2nd.

I think you need some vehicle to drive with a Dual Clutch.
Either that or your own transmission needs a rebuild.
