Default Transmission stuck momentarily in 1st when cold

My '07 XK with 17K miles when cold and starting in first gear (in drive) it seems to "stick" in first gear with a condition like a slipping clutch that stalls forward motion. This does not occur with every cold start, but once a week or so (its a daily driver).
I can quickly "fix" the problem by shifting to sport mode and back to drive. Then the car behaves normally.
The transmission is not leaking. I will take the car to a transmission specialist for a consult; and will probably have the transmission fluid changed.
I am wondering if any forum member has had this problem?

My 07 XKR had done around 15K miles when I bought it late last year and I found the 1st to 2nd change very pronounced when cold but only for the first minute or so.

It felt very different to my X350 that had the same gearbox and I adapted my driving style to compensate for the first gear change of the day. I then got a Mongoose clone and used it to reset the gearbox adaptations and it made a huge difference. The gearbox now changes gear as I would expect it to.

I agree that the X350 and XK have very different feeling transmissions. Are they really exactly the same?

Thanks all, particularly u102768. Your comments make me think this is a software problem. I'm some distance for a dealer; and the "Mongoose Clone" makes sense. However, I am a bit behind the times with computers as I don't even own a laptop. I will try my old school ECU reboot of disconnecting battery leads; but don't know if this simple fix will address gearbox adaptations, but no harm in trying this.
I have an Audio Connectivity Module (ACM) to install. It has to be programmed by a dealer, so when this is done I will ask the dealer to reset gearbox adaptations.

My comment was aimed more at the fact that they both have ZF 6HP26's so are from the same family rather than being exactly the same.

The XKR gearbox is actually different to the XK gearbox internally so it is highly likely that there are differences to the X350 but I was disappointed with the gear change quality when I first got it. The Mongoose sorted that out.

From what I have read and experienced, you do unfortunately need a tool to clear the gearbox adaptations on the XK.

Could you elaborate more on this Mongoose clone? What else can you do with it? Could I update my multimedia/touch screen firmware?

I see that you have found the thread on them in the General section of the forum.

The clone I bought appears to be able to do anything a real one does so the only limitation to doing things like updating the touch screen software is the availability of the software and firmware updates. Mine came with a copy of the Jaguar diagnostic software plus a username and password to unlock it.

I spent too much on my XKR to risk bricking one of the modules so leave it to my mechanic to do that sort of thing as we have a good relationship. He actually borrowed my Mongoose for a few months himself so they seem to be good enough for the professionals!

Apart from resetting the gearbox adaptations I have only used it to check on/reset error codes on the XKR and also have a play with the diagnostic monitoring software.

I used it more on my X350 doing things like setting the customer preferences e.g. turning off the extra drip wipe the wipers do after washing the windscreen and also let the air suspension down, just because I could.
