Depends on how good the battery was to start with (brand name, or off-brand?), how long was it sitting before you put it in the remote, and how often you use it.
I know that my 3 presses to open the top while I'm approaching the car, and 3 to close it as I walk away, puts more drain on the remote battery than if I were to not do that.
I've been on the same battery for over a year, but I don't drive the car every day, and not at all in the winter, so I'd expect it to last longer than a daily driver.
Even so, I've noticed my range from the car for my top opening 'trick' has gotten shorter, and I should consider replacing it before it actually dies on me.

kj07xk's signature shows that he has the Jag Wragler's (a.k.a. WhiteXKR) remote control top kit that enables you to open and close the top with your key fob, as well open and close the rear windows with the top down. Search this forum for details. I installed it on my XKR - it's what the factory forgot.
One other thing - keep a spare CR2032 battery in your glove box.

I replaced the batteries in both my smartkeys when I got my XK approaching three years ago. No problems with either of them since.
The rapid rate of discharge on yours suggests one or more of the buttons could be sticking.
Given the low cost of batteries, it's probably a sensible precaution to add replacement to the annual service tasks.

I would suggest trying a new, brand name battery. If it still dies in a month, you might try opening the fob up and swabbing the circuit board thoroughly with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry completely. This should help resolve a sticky switch or a parasitic leakage path (which could be due to flux contamination during manufacture).
I am still on the original battery on mine, and I must have used the fob many, many thousands of times during development and testing of the remote top!

+1. If you buy batteries locally, instead of from Amazon or other internet seller, you can check the expiration date on the package to make sure that you're not getting old stock. Low priced internet batteries are no bargain if they don't last.
Buyer beware - lots of fake watch batteries on the internet http://www.microbattery.com/counterf...atch-batteries

If you have 2 remotes and #1 doesn't work and the other one (#2) works, swap the batteries making sure that the polarity is correct. If the "bad" one (#1) still doesn't work, you know that the problem isn't the battery. Possible causes include not making good contact with the battery, a bad circuit, or corrupted programming. Try cleaning it as WhiteXKR suggested. If that doesn't work, it's time for the dealer to check it.
