Default Smart remote driving me crazy!!

2007 XKR, low miles.. Replaced car battery about 7 months ago...new AGM battery...about $200 from Sears...Was experiencing several of the known "electrical gremlins" that these cars are known to have with weak batteries.

Had the car for 14 months and have never experienced a problem with the remote (fob) or keyless entry/starting. Daily driver.

Two weeks ago I stated getting a "smart remote battery low" warning.
Also started having intermittent outages of the keyless entry. Exterior door would not open with just hands on door handle even though remote in close proximity. Also started having intermittent "keyless remote not found" warnings.

Obvious call? Replaced the remote battery with new one. Still having all these issues intermittently. Have verified several times that the new remote battery is properly installed and all contacts are met.

Any thoughts?

Cheapest option is to try another 'new' remote battery, just in case the current 'new' one is a dud.

Next "cheapest" after the SK battery would probably be a new smartkey. About $100.

Did you put the fob in the small docking station in the console after the battery change?

How far away from the car do you keep your keys at home? That may drain the battery too as well as the cars if the keys are too close. Where do you keep the car in the car when you get that message?

I am curious about this; One of my remotes is recognised by the docking station but iotherwise is inoperative despite a battery change (actually, several battery changes). Will putting it into the dock effect any improvement - ie make the button use now be recognised?

I have a non functioning remote as well. They still work in the docking station because they have two modes, passive and active.

The active key code is used by the docking station and is validated by the instrument cluster.

The passive one is used to lock/unlock the car and is paired with the keyless vehicle module.

They are separate though so docking will have no effect on the passive mode.

I have tried reprogramming mine using SDD but the car can't detect it when it scans for it during programming so I think mine is simply broken. It was fine when I first got the car then I got a message about key not detected a couple of times when I went to start the car then it finally gave up.
