Default So answer me this please...

I'm not in the immediate market, but I tend to watch the newer XKR's (around the 2009-2010+ range). I have noted that virtually none seem to have the adaptive cruse control (at least as I know it on my 2007). Without starting the classic debate as to whether this is a good option or not (i personally love mine), I am alarmed at how many Jags I see without it! So much so, that I question if the feature was eventually dropped, or was it incorporated into newer models without the benefit of the second tumbwheel on the right side of the steering wheel that I know to look for? Just curious, as I hope to upgrade some day, and this feature will be a "must have" for me. Many thanks!

Not sure if others feel the same way, but personally spending $2,600 extra for that option (at least in Canada) seems extravagant. Especially when you consider that for many of us these are our weekend unwind cars and going on "automated distance cruise control" completely defeats the purpose of a spirited drive. IMO of course! I do see the benefits if it's your daily driver but for me, I did not expect to ever use that feature. Glad it was an option!

For what it's worth, the 2010 that I have has it.

I have looked at over 100 maybe 200 cars over the last 6 months and have seen maybe a handful of the 2010-2014 cars with this feature. My bet is most people would not use the feature because they do a lot of fun driving and like the feel of the go peddle. I was looking for the feature but after driving with a friend who has the feature on his XF I did not like the go , slow , go , slow feel while driving on interstates. It's just a personal taste feature. I bet it is a rare option on these cars.

I don't have it, but have to assume it was the additional optionable cost when the cars were originally ordered since the bulk of the Jaguars are made to order.

Thats my take.

For me, I wouldn't trust Jaguar with such a technology. I know when I had an X350, people were always complaining about the system kicking out and turning off. And since there was no backup system, when it did so, there was no cruise control available--not even standard cruise control.

For what it's worth................I've a '07 with Adaptive Cruise control that on occasion kicks out but I can recover by pulling over to the side of the road and restarting the car, then it works again. Happens on long trips of say a thousand miles. This year I bought a 2014 ML350 BlueTec by Mercedes with its version of adaptive cruise control (Distronic). It also kicked out on me on my first trip to Corpus Christi and later in the trip. And it happened on my recent trip to Grand Canyon. So dropping out isn't just a Jaguar problem with these 'adaptive cruise control" systems it would seem. The big difference is the ML recovered on it's own after ??? five or ten minutes of being lost.

As for the XK.........since I know I can recover it by rebooting (engine off/restart) and it only happens rarely, it's become a non issue with me.

Hailers, that sounds like a battery issue to me. I have an issue where the paddle-shift downshifting gets lazy (does not blip). Restarting the car solves the issue. But that's damn annoying when you have to find an exit to pull over on the highway (which could add minutes to a trip)!

For what it's worth..my 07 has ACC. I freaking love it. Makes the morning commute a breeze. It kicked out on me once. Radar blocked (or something like that on the info center). It reset itself in about five minutes.

I use cruise control all the time, especially on the interstate. I had a loaner that had ACC and found it pretty convenient. On a couple of 1000 mile trips up I-95 I really wished I had it as I was constantly tapping the brake to disengage the cruise control coming up on slower traffic when there was no lane to pass.

It's always been an option, though I don't see it on the '14 models here in the UK - not sure when it was dropped, but I think it was available last year. Just seems to be one that most people didn't take.

This is what I was hoping to hear if accurate. After living with this option, I would find it hard to not have it on my next car. The occasional drop out is a minor issue in the miles I drive. It makes for very relaxing distance drives, and the added feature of the "Collision Alert" in heavy traffic (ACC off) has certainly proved its worth.

OK, just checked UK used listings - there are cars with ACC from 2010 to late 2013. So, that's fairly good confirmation. However, there are only 12 cars out of 187 in that age range that have it, so about 6%. Since the US has greater distances, it may be more popular on your side of the Atlantic, but you're still going to be limiting your choice quite a bit.

Default ACC Optional then Standard then Optional

I'm addicted to the Adaptive Cruise on my 2009 and use it all the time. Great for keeping me from getting a speeding ticket.

For US models, ACC was optional from 2007 - 2009 and I'm pretty sure it became standard equipment on the 2010 5.0L XKR, along with everything else that was optional on the 2009 XKR except for Alcon brakes. That changed for 2011 - up when ACC became optional again.

Best chance for finding a used XKR with ACC is with the 2010 model; I'm pretty sure they all have it.

I don't know if my 2010 XKR has it or not. I've used the regular cruise on occasion, which I like, but was never able to learn to like ACC which I have tried in my '06 Sienna mini van, preferring for whatever reason to use the normal cruise in it instead.

If you have regular cruise, you don't have ACC - it's one or the other. The best indicator of which you have is whether you have one thumbwheel or two on the right side of the steering wheel - ACC has two, one for speed and one for distance.

I like the option, but it does not work as well as BMW's. Adaptive CC should go all the way down to a stop to really be useful. Cutting out at 25 MPH ruins the situations where I really want to use it.

I do have it in my 2010 XKR. When I last had it in my 2005XK I did not care so much for it as it tended to surprise me by unexpectedly applying the brakes when a car cut in front of me or in sharper turns in the road. I think it contributed significantly to the untimely brake wear on that car.

However, when I did not have it on my XJL, XF and '08XK I missed it. So, it is nice to have it back, at least in one of my Jags.
