So, Ohiostate1, how do you like the exhaust now that you have had it a while? Has it changed in sound and/performance over time? How is the drone?

The sound is now better than ever! The growl is much deeper yet not over the top. When coming off a stop light or a hard press for highway speed the exhaust note is great. I have also deleted the middle resonator towards the back and had a shop replace it with staright pipes to the exhaust!
Seems more free flowing and a bit faster but that is not from a dyno just the old seat of the pants meter. Drone is not an issue and can hear my Pandora with no issues!

Did the sound change with the resonator delete or just feel more "present"? Do you have any pictures from under the car?

Any one have any insight/guesses on how different this exhaust would sound on a 5.0L non-supercharged engine? Interested in purchasing one but only sound clips I see are for the supercharged 5.0L or both SC and NA 4.2L.

Thanks.

I'll know on Tuesday. I'm having the Mina exhaust installed on my 2013 XK tomorrow. I won't have any before/after clips though, as I'm having the dealer install it before I ever even drive the car. (The car was delivered to the dealer last week, but I've been out of town, and won't be back to pick it up until Tuesday.)

I'm not getting it for the sound, though. I'm getting it for the looks. The sound (and extra high end performance) will just be an added bonus.

Have the Mina too. So you just removed the rear resonator... I removed both. So the entire center section with straight pipes. Sounds nasty but with a bit of drone at times. I wonder if I put the front resonator back on and left the rear off as you would it improve.

Do you have drone at any rpm's?

I like it with the resonator. Without the resonator, the balance between mechanical engine noise and exhaust noise is lost.

Default Sound of Today like Back in the Day!

OhioState1 - Your Mina exhaust sounds great! It reminded me of the sound of my 1960 Corvette with the optional off-road exhaust (clip is from a '61):

Narrator is Zora Arkus Duntov, the GM engineer known as "the father of the Corvette".

...............Sold in 2002...............

I can't hear any drone, I am able to listen to the radio or answer the phone with no problem. At times I just have the top down and nothing playing so I can hear the exhaust when the pedal is hit hard on the highway!
Try it with just the rear one off and see which set up is better for you overall?
When I compare to the Supercharged Mustang I had with side exhaust now that was drone!

Thanks, OS1. By the way, my wife is a Buckeye, too! The only thing I've done to my XKR's exhaust is pull fuse 19. I prefer the more raucous tone.

Stuart,
In the future I might need an XKR once you own a supercharged car hard to go back to N/A. Though I must admit I picked up this beauty with only 1258 miles and for a daily driver great deal. For now thinking of also doing an ECU upgrade to max shift points and gain a few more horses. OSU grad from the days Woody was there and could party on high street...

OS1,
Did I read that correctly? Did you buyr your 2009 XK in 2012 with only 1258 miles on it?

By the way, my wife also graduated back in the day when Woody Hayes was coach and women wore skirts, not pants or jeans, even in the coldest days. And you're right - once you've had an XKR it's hard to go back to a normally aspirated XK. There's a world of difference in low-end torque. Although I must say that your XK with tne new Mina exhaust sounds as good as, or maybe better than, my XKR!.

Stuart,
Yes, I was able to get this 2009 XK Diamond Edition with only 1258 miles.
This car sat in the dealership when I was looking at buying a 2011 XF in May/11. Dealer would not negotiate on sticker price of the XK so I thought great looking car just a bit expensive so I purchased the XF for less than 1% interest. Dealer then calls me in December of 2011 and tells me the original owner who bought the XK wanted them to buy it back so he could get the new XJL. Long story short I was able to get this car what I would call almost brand new for a tremendous price!
