UPDATE:

EGAD ... my car is STILL at Rosenthal, with no definitive diagnosis as of yet. It's been going home with various technicians since Friday night, including the shop foreman, but the inconsistent nature of this problem has left them all baffled. They THINK it is the starter, but they can't be sure, and my extended warranty is certainly not going to cover the cost of a "theory". I'm being as patient as I can be while they try to figure this out; supposedly a service dept. meeting and conference call with corporate was planned for this afternoon. Hopefully I'll have a real update soon!

After over a week of inconsistent starting problems, the car finally wouldn't start today. It was towed into the service department, and they were able to determine that the fuel pump was the cause. (I guess it died a slow, agonizing (for me) death.) Thank goodness for the extended warranty.

*BUMP*

UPDATE: New fuel pump installed ... car won't start. New module installed ... car still won't start. Module replacement ordered and will arrive Monday. If that doesn't work, technician will have to go through all of the wiring.

Good news, if you can call it that, is that a SECOND XK with the SAME no-start issue was brought in this week. Jaguar has little choice but to take a closer look at what's happening here.

I guess we can expect a TSB out of this.

UPDATE:

Airbag sensor. A code was discovered saying "airbags deployed," which obviously has never happened. Sensor was replaced and car is starting.

My question is, where was that code before?

Had same problems with my " new to me" 07xk. No start, start then die, start than backfire etc. dealer spun their wheels...no codes...no hard evidence of issue when at dealer.

Got them to replace the push button switch ....never had another problem! Go figure!

As modern cars age their ground connections degrade with exposure to elements. The first thing I check on with an intermittent problem is the ground connections. There are several. A ground can "work" well under light load, but "disconnect" under heavy starter load. Don't assume a connection is good just because it is tight. Take it off and clean the connections. It never hurts to add additional ground wires. I have "fixed" several cars this way that had new starters, etc installed by dealers as a futile fix.

UPDATE

Internal short in main fuse box resulted in loss of fuel pump and airbag sensor. Three-month-old battery had to be replaced too. Car is running fine now.

I would say that the extended warranty was a good investment. :-)

How much was the extended warranty, and from what company was it?

Just over $2500 for 4 years/48K miles Platinum Coverage from Fidelity. This bill alone more than covers the cost, and it's not the first time I've had a claim.

They (Rosenthal Jaguar) think there's a TSB on the issue (I haven't found one). Here's hoping they can figure out what's going on.
Well, this happened to me today. Drove the car this morning with no issues. This afternoon is started, ran rough, was able move ten feet and it died.

Tried to start it a dozen times and it would run roughly for a few seconds then die. Giving it some gas while it was trying to run only made it die quicker. It finally started and ran fine.

I'm headed to the dealer tomorrow. Any further feedback on what the issue might be?

Thanks.

Great, thanks for the info. I was looking at extended warranties from AAA and they were much more expensive.
