Default Start up noise

Last week I posted regarding noise from the cam phasers (assumption that's it)at start up. On cold start up, I get a short burst of noise from the engine that is a quick staccato like sound. Car runs fine after start up and the noise does not repeat on subsequent starts unless it has sat for several hours.

Got off phone with Jaguar service at Schofield Jaguar in Wichita, KS. They say that the noise is often NORMAL!, and does not necessitate a repair at this time! If my car were still under Jaguar factory warranty, this would not be deemed necessary for repair.

So, my question for the Forum.... especially our esteemed Jag techs... is this staccato like noise just a "thing" that you will sometimes hear with these cars and nothing to worry about..... or is this guy bullshitting me because they don't want to dig into my car??

Thanks,

Tim

Check out this thread, it has a link to a video. Let us know if this is what you hear.

Yes!.... kind of..... The noise from my car ('07 XKR) is only for a short instant, less than a second, as you push the start button. The nearest sound was in the second video just as you began to rev the engine... the "tapping" got much faster (staccato) for just that short instant and then went away. My car sounds like that right at start up - like a second burst from a machine gun, and then nothing until the next cold start.

It's not just a cold start crackling pipe noise? In which case it is normal, paid for no less. If it's under your hood however, I believe that's cold valves.
