Default Steering wheel vibration at low speed turns only

I'm having what I think is a slight problem with my XKR (2010). From a standstill, if I slowly accelerate and turn the wheel to the right or left, it rapidly vibrates for a few seconds then stops. This is the only time this is occurring. I also hear a slight whine at idle but I'm not sure if this is the supercharger or something going on with the power steering that could be linked to the vibration. Thoughts?

I have this same problem on my 2010XKR and there are others as well. There is another thread from a couple of days ago where a TSB is mentioned. I previously read one where a power steering hose had to be replaced. I'm doing that in the next week or two.

It's sort of a shuddering feeling, correct?

Took it to the dealer and we couldnt replicate it. The power steering recall has already been completed on my car. I drove around quite a bit today and it didnt do it at all. So confused.

Mine does it about 65-75% of the time on turns from a stop or out of a parking space. But the rest of the time you wouldn't know anything is wrong. Makes me nuts and feels so bad and cheapens the experience.

This is a common Jaguar issue not limited to XKs. My X350 did it, too. Consider it a feature and not a problem!

+1. My 2008 XKR does something similar at low revs when maneuvering. It's almost like the pump has to build pressure then release it to the rack. At first I thought the fluid had gone soft, but as amc says, it seems to be a harmless Jag feature/foible.

These episodes only occur on initial start-up, correct?

For me, they happen all the time, but mostly in warmer weather. I'm sure it's the same for the OP!

Someone in an old thread in the X350 section suggested it was something to do with the steering rack bushings (or at least that was the dealer's story).

it happens in mine as well, not a full lock turn but a stopped 90 degree left or right turn, small vibration, sort of feels like the tire is slipping over a surface. dealer said they could never replicate the issue. it's a weird sensation and doesn't happen every time either, maybe 20% of stopped turns, and never while reversing. Also it happened on my stock rims and the new ones.

I would love to know what it is.

Happens to me also, I first thought it was a rear end issue with the electronic diff. Since it appears to be a common trait, I won't worry about it too much, but I will point it out next time I'm at a Jaguar Dealer.

I forgot to mention that its been about a year since I experienced the shudder in the steering wheel. My answer was to drain the power steering fluid and replace with full synthetic Dextron VI. Works like a charm.

Cheers guys.

Saved me posting a new thread. This seems to be a Jag trait as my 07 S does this also and it's only got 11k on it. Warm weather, that's all we have in FL, and sometimes 'cold' upon startup or even warm, it's an inconsistent judder in the wheel like a PS belt is slipping.
