Now that's funny.

Unintended acceleration is impossible in modern cars, the TPS has 3 sensors in it, 2 reading voltage 0-5v and one reading voltage 5-0v. If any of these fail to agree the computer will idle the engine. Acceleration can only occur by throttle action.
I wonder if you have a cruise control issue, could the 'Resume' function be engaging?
Regards,
Seems possible. I'll speak with my tech tomorrow and mention it to him. Thanks. Be safe.

Just saw your problem with sudden acceleration.Remembering when I first bought my 2009 XK had the same problem with the unintentional acceleration. Had it happen three times to me, the last time with my daughter in the car.Now I have been driving for over 40 years with all different types of cars and trucks, and are very familiar with different transmissions and never had an experience as the one I had in my Jag.Forgot about the experience until I saw your thread. I looked up about the problem and didn't find anything to help me out. This happened about three years ago when I bought the car,was having electrical gremlins at the time of the acceleration problem.Replaced the battery and the electric problems as well as the unintentional acceleration problem went away. Now maybe I had wrong foot placement and was stepping on the gas pedal along with the brake pedal ,but I've driven cars with trickier pedal placement than the XK.Don't know if this helps, just strange someone else has experienced this. As I stated ,after replacing the battery never had the issue again, bought my 2013 last January haven't had any problems with it, but since this issue came up when my battery starts running low I'm going to be thinking about the unintentional acceleration again.

I don't want it to sound like I have the answer about the problem about it being a bad battery but just something to look into. What I remember about the last time it happening to me, I was coming to a stop and after I stopped the car the engine started revving at real high rpm's . Barely could hold the car still with the brake. Shut the engine down immediately. It scared my daughter to death as well as shook me up a bit. Anyway, maybe I learned correct foot, pedal placement.Tried to figure how I could have made a mistake like that because the XK pedal placement is not unusual over anything else I have driven.

Deliver to your local Jaguar workshop and have them update/reconfigure the ECM. This is the Engine control module

It is worth checking but on an '07 the cruise control shouldn't operate below around 18mph.

Regarding sudden acceleration. Am getting the car back in the morning with no new answer. For those that have asked, the battery is brand new. I am going to find a empty Walmart parking lot and try and figure out if it is my foot fault as the source.

Once again thanks for all the good input. Be safe.

Drive by wire jags have 2 different sensors so BOTH would have to lie about the pedal and in consistent ways or else codes are thrown.

So, no.

Default sudden acceleration

I just had the same experience on my 2008 jaguar xkr with 72000 miles on the odometer.
I was waiting on a stoplight when I noticed the rpm rising above idle to about 1200 rpm's
then all of a sudden jumping to about 5000 rpm's.
I had my foot on the brakes and had to apply strong pressure to keep the car from moving forward and all the while the rear wheels were squeeling. I would like to make it clear to everybody, I did not put my foot on the accelerator pedal by accident nor did I have any floor carpet issues. I was able to put the shifter in neutral, the tachometer went real high then it went back to normal idle like nothing happenned
It was a very scary experience. Will be taking the car to Jaguar foe troubleshooting but am afraid they will tell me nothing's wrong.
Had similar experience with a new 2005 XJ8L. but nothing this drastic.
jaguar said the didn't find anything wrong with that car

Odd that YOU have had this with two cars.

Both cars have redundancy built in and you can tell from the forums that this is NOT happening other than to a very few people...

I believe it would be near impossible to take the car to 5000 rpm with it still in gear and stationary. You are bound to burn something.

You may have discovered a new way of launch control.
On the lighter side, you missed your only opportunity to break the land speed record. 500hp was being held back by just the brake.

The transmission was probably slipping.

Happened to me today! Car, 2009 XK 53k miles, wanted to move fwd, fast! I was in stopped slow traffic after driving 60 mph over a bridge. Braked then car went frwd fast. I put car in neutral and it revved hard. Moved off the road put in neutral then put in Park. Revved even louder. Turned it off frantically. Started fine and drove rest of way home fine. I think it may have done a brief second of rev yesterday because it made me thing the cruise control was on - which I never use and have no idea where it is. However cruise control usually goes off after braking long and stopping. And doesn't rev the car up in neutral.

Check how clean it is in the pedal area.

Either something jammed, or you pushed the accelerator.

If something goes wrong, the default state is off.

If something goes wrong, the default state is off.

If something goes wrong, the default state is off.

If something goes wrong, the default state is off.

This is speaking as someone who has experienced the former of the two when I used my Porsche 944 floor mats in my XK right after purchase. They managed to catch the bottom of the pedal in a way that wedged it in place.

Something I have had to do in rental karts on a race track is flip my foot behind the pedal and pull it up from a stuck position; very exciting. I did the same with my XK, it unjammed it.

It seems to me you went into a bit of a panic, and people in a panic have less awareness.

I know the panicked feeling from personal experience; but had thought about the process ahead of time of what to do with unintended acceleration.

Rick, did you find the root cause of your sudden acceleration? My 07 has the same symptoms (and I am NOT pressing the accelerator)

Try OBD to see what such as TPS and MAF are doing.

This is an old thread, but I'm having the same issue with my 2004 XJ8. And it is DEFINITELY NOT me pressing the accelerator. When it happened, I pulled over, put the car in neutral then park, revs hit the limiter and stayed there. Turned the car off and on several times, took foot off brake while in park, same thing. Went into the trunk, disconnected the battery negative, reconnected after a minute or so, car started up fine and drove like nothing happened.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, as well. It was a very brief blip of acceleration while creeping forward with the car at idle speed. My best guess is that the car started off in 2nd, decided to downshift into first and it gave a little bit of rev-match, resulting in a slight lurch forward.

My 4.2 XKR did that occasionally when pulling up to traffic lights while the engine was cold. Makes you jump!

We bought our 2007 XK in January 2021 and experienced this sudden acceleration one time in the first month we owned it. I was pulling into our driveway and was on the brake when it revved up by itself to about 4,000 RPM. I shut it off and restarted the car twice and it was still revving high. I let it sit for 15 minutes and it was fine and never happened again. It only happened once. But the car also started to idle low after a long drives (two hours or so) when I tried to restart it shortly after shutting it off. I contacted the private dealer I bought it from and he suggested I take it to his mechanic. I did so and the mechanic replaced the throttle body. Since then it has run perfectly. I'm also only using 93 octane fuel and adding Lucas fuel additive about once every two months.
