Default Sudden massive oil leak....

Driving home, doing about 70, the car suddenly lost all its oil, I pulled over straight away and turned the car off. I put some more oil in and it came straight out. The oil was coming out towards the back of the sump, rear of the engine. Got it towed home and now need to figure out where it is coming from. It’s the 4.2 sc. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Hopefully this is the right place for this but it's just a guess.

Maybe a signature with your car details would be useful?

Based on his earlier posts, I suspect he has a 4.2L SC XF.

Shouldn't be hard to find if its that big.

Only thing I can think of is you bottomed out and put a hole in your oil sump.

Impossible to know without any pics.

I put in the post that it was the 4.2l but didn’t want to put XF as hardly anyone has the SV8 XF, so normally get more responses on engine queries from the xkr folk

no hole in the sump. I didn’t get it home till it was dark and couldn’t see anything obvious with a torch. There is oil everywhere so hard to tell. I’m going to clean it tomorrow, put some more oil in and try to pinpoint where it is coming from. I’m thinking it must be a hose that has gone. I just wondered if there was anyone that had had similar problems and knew likely things to check

Will bet oil cooler hose has seperated, happened on my x100 and oil sprayed all over the exhaust/manifold...biblical amounts of white smoke on the 10 mile drive home.

No damage done and new hose and oil was all that was needed.

Fingers crossed
