Purdy Jag,
That a picture of each end of a front Banana, as they are known.
It's an important suspension part that controls front and rear movement of the front wheel. In the pictures the ends actually look fine , however overtime the front bush especially, goes soft .This can sometimes be felt or heard when braking hard, it can also make the steering feel vague.
They are a part that wears, albeit even new ones, I have replaced mine , are quite soft feeling by modern standards.
The proper term for them is front control arm, some cars have rear control arms on the front wheel too, and the back. Most mechanics call them Banana arms due to the shape, not the taste or colour.

Thank you. So basically the bushings are what needs to be replaced. I really appreciate your time.

They won't replace the bushings ,they will just swap out the whole arm. They are relatively inexpensive items. Made to be replaced as a whole rather than changing the bushes.

I bought two in the UK for £140 GBP. From a reputable source . I did not buy Jaguar ones .

@Stuart S

Those rear sway bar bushings and toe links just don't last long. No brand I've tried. Gotta do them on my XKR as well and it just has around 50k miles on it. As for the a arms, unless your bushings are in the same condition as the links, I wouldn't do them. Not yet, anyway. I replaced the entire suspension on my 04 XJR and probably didn't really need to. Lots of expense and work, Did it myself and claimed that the money I'd saved on labor allowed me to buy a lift.................

@luv2fly There's no point in buying expensive OEM Jaguar replacement suspension parts as we know those bushings don't last. What we don't know is how long the kit I bought will last. When they fail, I'll replace the rubber bushings with polyurethane.

I received the kit. I'm taking it to my technician today to inspect all the components and schedule the installation. I initially rejected delivery because the carton was damaged by UPS and several parts were ripped out of their boxes and I didn't know if they were damaged. The vendor persuaded me to accept the shipment and promised to replace any parts that were missing or damaged. I did so because that's covered by eBay's guarantee. To my untrained eyes, they appear to be excellent quality.

The banana arms are shared with many lincoln and other jags, you can find them for $100 if you cross reference the part numbers.
replacing them can be a bear as the transmission cooler must be lifted to take out the interference bolt in order to remove the banana arm.

replacing them helps with ride quality and handling..

My box arrived partially crushed, haven’t opened it yet to inspect and count items, should do that sooner rather later…
Not planning on installing anytime soon, just nice to have spares on hand.

The 4.2 liter transmission cooler is integral with the radiator. Non issue for @Stuart S model year.

Following up on my installation ...
Everything was completed today, including replacement of all 26 front and rear suspension parts as shown in my Post #26, above. The only glitch was that both front tie rod ends didn't fit, so my installer sourced them locally. I will let the eBay vendor know, with photos and an explanation. After the wheel alignment, I took it for a lengthy test drive and I was very pleased. There's still more cosmetic work to be done, so stay tuned for the detailed photos.

This is not a DIY project for me, as I don't have the necessary skills or tools. My indie mechanic is ASE Certified and owns a gorgeous 2007 Aston Martin Vantage 6-speed coupe, among other toys. It has the best stance I've ever seen. The tires don't rub inside the fender wells and there are no wheel spacers. The aftermarket rear spoiler extension is real carbon fiber, but he removed the front CF spoiler as it was too low.

Which rubber bushings, if any, would you recommend replacing with polyurethane bushings? Or, given the limited future use, would you simply use everything in the kit?

Stuart

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or anything but folks can keep their F-Types. ☝️ Is where it's at. My wife doesn't know it yet, but once I get rid of my MINI and my 93 F-150 I'm gonna be looking for an XKR. I mean that'll give me 4 Jags total, but I'm not sure that is a remote problem at all. 😂

That is a remarkable amount to complete in one day ,that's a very competent mechanic, surely two people I would have thought.
I had two sets of tie rods side by side as I was sure my replacements were wrong but it was correct, I just needed to adjust the front strut orientation to get them in . Well done , alignment as well . Does the car feel different?

I didn't say that all the work was completed in one day. In my post #26 I explained that I took it to my mechanic on October 28 and he began work the following day, 10/29.

The issue with the kit's tie rod ends is that the bolt diameter is larger than OEM. It simply doesn't fit.

My XKR doesn't feel any different, except when I went over speed bumps - it was noticeably quieter and wasn't jiggly. It didn't ride that badly before, even though most of the rubber bushings were bad.

[QUOTE=Cee Jay;2794733]Due to this thread I just checked all my bushes and boots. Everything is still good, although the inner banana arm bushes are starting to get a bit ragged. Not a lot, just the beginnings of it. Pretty good for 14 years.[/QUOT

Front lower thrust arm large bushings (banana arm) bushings from lemfoerder are around $55 each c2P17090 (maybe more-- a couple of years since I did mine). You'll have to search for them. You need a press, but easy fit if you have one. They have an orientation, so look at your old ones. I could not find a repalcement for the small ones.

Tips: While you can replace the arms easily, make a witness mark on the small cam so you can get the new ones in the right cam rotation.

The bushing nuts are fairly big torques: Large: 175nm +135 deg, and small 60 nm + 135 deg.

ALSO: Unlike BMW, you can install the banana arms backwards (left to right).* They'll fit backwards. So, take a pic of the installed ones and double check.

* Ask me how I know.... Karma story: I was humblebragging to the guy in the next rent-a-lift how I did all my work, after he complimented my XK. As a BMW owner, I was used to installing them the only way they will fit...then I installed the XK thrust arms backwards. Backed off the lift to a loud screech. Embarrassed, I never left-right swapped a pair of arms faster in my life...

Better that the absurd Jag prices.
