Default Suspension sensor question

Someone here, probably a lot of people here, may know exactly what this does. I feel slow for not knowing lol. I am sure I could google enough to find out and I will if I need to, but I figured why not post it here. I am getting coilovers on my car and as I was just down in the garage looking at it I see these sensors on top of each shock/strut. I'm pretty sure this will not be plugged up again with the aftermarket set up so can someone tell me what I might trigger (any dash error lights), what I might sacrifice (if anything) etc. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Not sure about your car, but on Cadillac disconnecting those will set a service suspension message.

If you disable CATS first by pulling the appropriate fuse you should not get any errors. I did it on mine. I found the fuse through the owners manual. I believe it was in the driver's footwell.

Fuse 14 (15A, blue) in the footwell fusebox is "Adaptive dynamic ride control power."

The turret leads carry the control signals to switch the dampers from firm to soft (the default setting is firm).

You guys are awesome. I disconnected it today just to see and it definitely sent CATS error message. I will try it with the fuse pulled. Thanks guys!

You'll find the car feels a bit odd with it off - it will stay in the 'hard' setting, so should be less comfortable at low speeds or over rough surfaces.

Wondering if that would be a good way to see how I might like it with the coil overs? Surely they might not be as comfortable as the OEM set up. I was expecting them to be somewhat more stiff even with the dampening adjusted.

I actually would not mind just doing lowering springs, but it seems like everyone with just springs are going really aggressive. I didn't want to go super aggressive on this car with the lowering. Just kill a little fender gap. Any other suggestions from seasoned XK guys would be heeded and appreciated.

I think the car drives a lot better with the fuse off. Much sharper responsiveness, but definitely harder ride quality.

Yes it is amazing how well CATS works. I prefer the sports car feel of the firm setting which is why I pulled the fuse. I love it and only on the poorest condition roads do I kind of wish I could turn it on. It is still not quite as firm as a Covertte though.

If they are any good the coil overs are the way to go.

The system on the 5.0 XKR is much more sophisticated: continuously variable rather than just hard/soft. And the Dynamic Pack stiffens things up by about 30%.
