I am thinking about participating this this year’s Targa trophy.

Has anyone ever participated in this event or one like it? what was your experience? did you have fun? what was the crowd like? how did the police treat you?

 

I've never participated in targa trophy, but have had friends who have (OC to Vegas last summer) and they really liked it.

 

What is it? The site seems to have very little info for people who aren't in the know!

 

From my understanding the targa trophy is a point to point timed rally for exotic cars. They emphasize it is not a race. However, when a XKR, Ferrari and Porsche all line up at a stop light, it is almost inevitable someone will rev their engine. I believe it stated in San Diego somewhere around 5 years ago.
I have watched a few videos on Youtube. And I get mixed opinions. It appears most people are very respectful while others take it a little serious and will almost run you off the road(only saw this in one video.) The idea of being in the same crowd with over 200 exotics cars excites me. As, I as well as probably everyone on these forums am a car guy.
I guess there are awards and an after party… lots of women. You know, All the things that make this sort of thing fun. But I was curious to see any other XKRs out there. Or hear from someone who has participated. If I do end up doing it, I will take lots of pics and post a few.

Read the info on the website, and it sounds interesting. The May event features Italian cars, so maybe I will shlep out the Pantera and have some fun. I drive it so rarely now, a nice little road trip might be enjoyable. Then again, the XKR with the top down on a nice May day might be nice as well.
