Wouldn't it be a more fairer comparison to the DB9 because they are both V8's?
There's nothing like a 12 cylinder car. Like Tiff said....12 cylinders makes it a super car!

 

as I agree an Aston is a great car for what it is...but the value for money is horrible in my eyes...same v12 engine that must be over a decade old.....horrible fit to door panels gaps in dash etc etc. not to knock it down but I have just never seen one that did anything besides just look good from a distance. if you want to change get a gran turismo mc. it also has a 15 year old engine......but at least it's a Ferrari left over

I think you are approaching AM the same way others approach Jag. Jaguar has still not completely shaken its decades old reputation for being a POS car. We (Jag owners, enthusiasts) know this is far from the truth. The XKR is a fantastic car in almost every respect. It's a bit behind on technology. However, I (like others) still get people that gawk at it when it goes by.

The fit and finish on the DBS I am pursuing is flawless. Over 40% of the body panels are carbon fiber. Most of the car is hand assembled/built. It seems as if you may think the car will simply fall apart if you drive it. Aston, like Jag, and even American cars (to an extent) have improved their quality tremendously over the past 10 - 15 years. I credit computer design and technology (robots, materials) for most of the quality improvement. I am not following you on the age of the engine design. AM engines, like the Jaguar AJV8 (currently Gen III?) have went through several design evolutions.

It's true that it is an extravagance. I think there will always be extravagant cost for certain things. It's obviously up to the individual to determine whether it's worth the extravagance to them.

 

I told my girlfriend about this thread and she said to not get any ideas about a new car.

Your Right, It is your money and I just caught myself doing what I always tell people not to do. Don't knock what other people like and let them spend there money on whatever makes them happy.... I'm pretty sure you went over the car to notice if there are any defects. I'm was just commenting on my neighbor who just purchased a 14 vanquish and at one location on dash the gap is so thin a piece of paper doesn't fit in and about 18" on that same seam a pen fits in to the same gap. I'm am going to have to say 120k so what just get it and worry about anything that might go wrong when or if it does. Good luck with it. Do what I do... don't think about it to much just buy it and start enjoying

I have to think that the Aston Martin DBS with a MSRP of close to $300,000 new, has to be flawless. It is quality and prestige. If it wasn't they would not have nor keep the reputation that currently exists now and in the past.

Bottom line, if you can afford it, and it doesn't stress your overall financial well being, then buy it and enjoy it.

Not 3 weeks ago when we got married SHE was the one who wanted the XKR in the wedding pictures. I thought it a little odd at first but she wanted family photos, me the wife and the girlfriend.

We both enjoy cars, just for differnt reasons. I like the machine, she likes the beauty.

 

Play by play coverage: we're very close to a deal. Only a matter of hours now...

I hope you don't have seconds thoughts and just go for it.

Nothing matches the elegance and the beauty of an Aston Martin, not even a Ferrari. Yes, AM engines didn't have VVT till recently, but so what, it's about how the car makes you feel. Not that they can't hold their own anyway.

Lastly, degrading the entire brand, just because 1 Aston Martin that didn't have a properly finished dash, isn't quite right. If we used the same quantitative method for all other brands, the outcome wouldn't be very good either.

 

She'd like me to wait a couple of years before any car purchase, cheap or expensive.

Haha, I found that review very entertaining. He makes a lot of great points.

Let's be honest--the reasons you'd buy an Aston is for the exclusivity, the beauty, the character and the noise!! You certainly wouldn't buy one for the technology or the ergonomics and pricepoint, which is what CNET is (justifiably) most concerned with.

I wonder why they even bother with the technology in a car like this. Does the nav screen add anything?

 

I dont know, but I had to watch the first half a few times again...that guy is cracking me up right now.
