Default tire suggestions?

my oe dunlops have given up the ghost @ 15k miles. the tires were decent but a tad noisy.

I can replace them but the fronts are over $400 each. there may be better performing, better looking tires out there.

what says the group regarding an alternative? thank you for the help.

You will get various opinions so depending on what you plan to use the car for will determine which type of tire you want. I'm a week end cruiser and also use it to go to the golf course. Prefer to have a smooth , quiet 3 season tire so I have gone to Continental DWS . It suits our needs and so far by judging the wear I could expect a min. of 30K miles on the set.

+1 on the Continental DWS06. A good value for sane drivers.

I have Firestone Firehawks Indy 500 on mine. Performance tire, very quiet. Seems to be wearing slower than I expected. I bought a lightly-used demo set of Pirelli P-Zeros for a song from a Jaguar dealer when they sold the dealership. I'm curious to try these to compare.

I have a set of Delinte tires on my car, they were put on by the dealer that sold me the car and were brand new when I got the car. I have 8,000 miles on them and they are fine so far. Seem quiet enough, seem grippy enough, and seem to be wearing just fine.

I know they are cheap tires, but they seem to be doing a fine job for me. After 8,000 miles so far, I am satisfied enough that I would get them again. We'll see how long they last.

Have always had good luck with Bridgestone or Continental. With Pirelli, only their top tires like P Zero Nero's are getting. Michelin are solid, but can be pricey.

Pete, I have gotten a different brand every time for my X150.

The fact is, tire tech is so good on a general level right now that it is difficult to go wrong.

Start with the temp/compound/stickyness you want.

Then just pick a tread design that has the most visual appeal to you.

Tirerack can be a bit fun to browse around, read the comments and reviews, check the data charts, etc.

From a performance standpoint, Michelin owns the reviews.

One recommendation, your car is in Southern California, don't go all seasons. Enjoy the grip of a Max Performance Summer tire.

Compare Pirrelli P-zero's side wall profile(In the same tire size) to my previous set of Continental DW.

You can clearly see how the Pirrelli reaches its profile by a very rounded large radius shoulder shape with the widest point at the base of the rim, and the Continental choose a more vertical centered side wall bulge with the widest point in the middle of the side wall.

I think for my new wheels, the Pirrelli's are the right choice as the curved profile of the Pirrelli complements the profile of the wheel.

+1 on Tervuren.
Not much difference in top tier tires these days but never a neg word on Contis. That said go for price and service.

Had the Contis on my 911 and was very happy with them. When I had to replace my rears on the XK, I got talked into BFGs G-Force, look at price and TireRack rating. I am not an overly aggressive driver and have no interest in "summer" tires but I do drive in the NC mountains. I'm happy with the BFGs and just put them on the front.

I drive the same general area as Old_dawg and agree Contis are my fave. I also use Hankook Ventus, though tread life is still undetermined yet.

The Conti’s get rave reviews, but I’ve found them too soft and ‘squishy’ for me. I run them over inflated by 4 lbs to firm them up. I’ll go with something else, if they ever wear out.

I run the BFG G-Force tires on my Chrysler 300c. Good tire. No complaints. I too went with the TireRack recommendation/analysis.

Michelin PS 4s for me in the Southland. Good grip and quieter than the OE Dunlops.

As an aggressive driver, I've been a fan of the Bridgestone S-04 (gone through 2 sets so far), but jealous of the Michelin Pilot Sports (ka-ching), as they seem to wear and grip slightly better.
OEM Dunlops (nearly new) came off my XKR as soon as I bought it... Pure garbage when compared to the Bridgestones.
I've just bought the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, but need summer time to give any kind of comparison.
Contis DW and DWS have always had good feedback for middle to upper based tires. I've not heard any reports on the new 06 design/compounds from anyone with experience running the earlier versions so I'm clueless there.

Ferrari Pete,

I notice you list the Charlotte area on your location. Are you active in either the Charlotte Area Ferrari Enthusiasts (C.A.F.E.) or the Carolina Jaguar Club?

Also, good luck with all of the fires in your state. I hope your house is spared.

I have a house in charlotte but live mostly in san diego. the jaguar was bought in charlotte from neil persad at scott jaguar where it was on the showroom floor. it was being consigned by the widow of the Carolinas jaguar club president. I bought the car three years ago w/ 3800 miles on the clock. it was the most pristine jag I had ever seen and in the showroom, the radiance paint looked...not like anything else! the jag was shipped to san diego where she now lives and chases sunsets and ocean drives w/ 15k miles now on her. she is still as new and a serious movie star

I have done a few things w/ the café guys. kevin is a nice fellow and he sought my guidance when he was looking at a boxer.

edit: I almost forgot that I took the xk to kevin's british car event at big ben's pub a few years back. good times!

in was just in charlotte for about 30 days enjoying my new alfa. just got back to san diego today and I must say...fires and no alfa are not to my liking
