Default the tonneau cover won't latch

I was replacing the battery in my 2007 XK. When I went to open the top it opened about 6 inches then stopped and gave me a "top not latched" warning. Did the manual reset and the tonneau would not latch. I went ahead and attempted to open the top and the tonneau raises then everything stops. Same error message and the tonneau is locked in the up position. Any ideas on what may be causing this?

Does the tonneau remain UP when the complete roof is up manually? DID you replace the battery? Is if FULLY charged?

The battery is brand new and fully charged. I am not sure if the tonneau will go down again if I bring the top up manually. I was trying to reset it since it acted weird after replacing the battery

One thing that looks odd, is the sliding cover that moves to allow space for the top mechanism, is open on the left side and closed on the right. I don’t recall when those open/close in the sequence, and maybe your left one was always stuck open, but it just caught my eye.

The cord that pulls it shut broke. It's on the list.

so the tonneau came down on its own after a bit. It's still not latching and I am still getting the "top not latched error"

Put the roof back up. Try again.

I have put some weight on it ie 4litres of oil, rolled up power cord, for an hour or so and it gradualy goes down. On startup I then push button to lower the roof and hear the latches close.

That did not seem to work. Cover still didn't latch. Think it's time to run it down to the shop.

Weel went out and started the car and the tonneau cover latched all on it's own. Guess it finally reset or something. Nothing like a temperamental Jag.

Or…. Starting the car provided enough electrical power with the assistance of the generator to accomplish the final step…

Anyways, glad its sorted.

Default Yep

Messing with mine today as well as my battery is dead and while I have an old invoice saying what was in there, I really wanted to look at it to visually inspect to be 100% sure. I think I have to take everything out of the trunk the divider etc, to do the battery swap now because the battery like I said is mostly dead, so I can't put the top down. It gets overwhelmed once it's up a few inches and unlatched and even that to go out of reset back to where it is now. Yes I can start the car because I'm keeping on a ctek, and I have jumped it with my other car to get it to that point but it won't charge the battery up full it's staying around 11.97V. Now I don't mind changing out the battery, it's good experience and I haven't had to replace it before I've had the car about 20 months and I didn't replace it a immediately because it's been working just fine. Discharge completely last night and would not hold a charge once I tried to get it back. New battery is the move.

All that to say I feel your pain and for any of you who are convertible owners, remember there's nothing on the car that can't be made just a little bit worse if you can stall your top halfway up so you can't drive it now. Insert colorful phrases here.
