Top street speed
Knowing these cars are good for more than 100mph what is your top speed? Not talking about track but street.
I saw Ngarara post 184 in Germany.

Do you really think that any Jaguar XK/XKR/XKR-S owner would even attempt to go over that 80 MPH Limit?

These sort of threads never end well....
At best, you get a few inputs from people who've driven on the derestricted Autobahns in Germany.
At worst, you get stories of people doing three times the speed limit (or more) on a public road, risking their lives, as well as the lives of innocent people.
There was a member of this forum who died a couple of years back, see https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...p-riski-49168/ and https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...update-100572/ he was racing on a public road. He died. So did an innocent lady who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
We've all put our foot down on a public road at some stage. I'm just as guilty of that as the next bloke.
But let's try not to encourage this sort of behaviour.
I'm not going to lock this thread, but i'll be keeping an eye on it.

That's what I thought too- 155MPH or the km/hr equivalent.

Honestly, the fastest I've gone in the XKR is probably 90 or 95 for a very short spurt. I tend to have all my fun between 30-60! But then again, I don't really have open (and un-patrolled) roads to let the cat really stretch out her legs!

Agree 100%. Yeah, I don't always stick to the limit - I normally drive at 80-85 on the motorway (70 limit), but so do a lot of others here in the UK. The cops aren't even vaguely interested until you get over 80. And if some kid in a hotrod hatchback comes up behind me doing 90, I'll let him go; I have nothing to prove.
If I want real speed, I'll go to the track, or to the autobahn - and in the case of the latter, I would not try high speeds unless the conditions (weather, visibility, traffic levels, road state) make it sufficiently safe. My 184 MPH run was done on a clear, windless Saturday morning at about 7:30, on a dry and relatively new autobahn (the A31, running north from the Ruhr) in light traffic conditions, and with a co-pilot to give a second pair of eyes. I didn't just whack it up to max speed immediately, but worked up to it to ensure the car was stable. Even so, there was still an element of risk, from tyre blowout, mechanical failure or brain fade on the part of another driver (the Dutch are the worst on the 'bahn) - having done it, I have no intention of doing it again.
They do. The standard XK & XKR are limited to 155 MPH (250 km/h). The 2008 XKR-S 4.2 and the Speed Pack 5.0 XKRs, including the European XKR 75 and North American XKR 175 special editions, have the limit increased to 174 MPH (280 km/h). The XKR-S 5.0 is further increased to 186 MPH (300 km/h).
However, my XKR 75, for whatever reason, seems to have the R-S limit applied. It will go up to a steady 182 MPH as measured by GPS, with occasional excursions over that. I believe that reflects a 186 'indicated' top speed - I can't be sure, because the speedo was off the dial.

This is a different to what the OP suggested. Trying to v-max >150mph on a public road is not the same as keeping up with traffic at 85mph.

I'm not saying go out & try it, but the limiter can be circumvented, as Ngarara was able to demonstrate.
Now, what I find more interesting is trying to stop from that speed, say if a kamikaze deer decides to bound across the road. Or some Dutch tourist towing his caravan decides to pull out without checking his mirrors (as they do)
It's mentioned here in an XKR-S brochure http://www.jaguar.cl/catalogo-fichas...alogo_xkrs.pdf
To stop in the 5.0L XKR-S from 300km/h (186mph) takes 327 metres (1072 feet) and 7.8 seconds.
Pretty impressive for a road car, I doubt I could stop my XJR that quickly, even with the upgraded brakes i've got now. At 186mph you are covering 273 feet per second, that's almost the length of a football field.
The average Joe's reaction time is about a second, maybe even longer. So before you've even got your foot to the brake, you've covered a football field.
And a lot can happen in a second...
Drive safe guys.

The risking lives types of comments are silly. How is driving a certain speed in Germany safe but driving that same speed in the us is all of the sudden reckless? It IS illegal but to say putting lives in danger is ignorance. If the road conditions do not allow high speeds on the autobahn it is still unsafe there. If the highway is open and dry in the US then it is just as safe.

The German traffic law spells it out pretty clearly.
Excerpt from Section 3, sub-section 1 of theGerman Road Traffic Regulations (StVO)
"The driver of the vehicle is only allowed to drive at speeds where he/she is capable of continually controlling the vehicle. The driver must inparticular adapt his/her speed to the road, traffic, visibility and weather conditions as well as his/her personal driving skills and the characteristics of the vehicle and its load."…
If you drive dangerously in Germany, the Police will stop you. I was pulled over myself once.
There is one little problem with your suggestion of ignorance, and that's the road users themselves.
Most people driving on unrestricted sections of Autobahn are expecting that someone will come along behind them doing 150mph, so they are watching their mirrors, and are aware of what's going on around them.
Most people on US, UK & Australian highways are practically asleep at the wheel, & would not be prepared for someone coming up behind them at a 100mph speed differential.
Driving on the German Autobahns is a stressful, white-knuckle experience at the best of times. I probably did 10'000kms of high speed driving during my time in Europe.
I saw some very big accidents too.

If you want to go 155 mph go rent/buy a Cessna. You will have to put it in a steep dive and remember the elevator cable is attached to a a single small bolt which may be 50+years old and never been Magna Fluxed...........
IMHO, this is a dumb topic...............

Guys, threads about how fast someone can illegally drive on the public roads will be closed/deleted whenever the mod team comes across them.
This forum does not promote reckless/dangerous driving.
If you want to drive continuously faster than your local legal speed limits, GO TO THE TRACK.
