Default Top won't go down

I get a message that the luggage cover isn't correct. It is correctly in place. I think the micro switches aren't seeing it. Can anybody tell me where they are and can I jump them?

You probably lost the magnet that is on the tip of the window shade when pulled out into position. Think its on the left side. Check around in your trunk, you might find it laying in there.

Is the magnet on the divider or in the switch on the bracket, with only a metal piece on the divider? I can never remember......

Well... in this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...arator-164420/

You said there was a magnet on both, but then jagtoes stepped in and said it was only a piece of metal on the divider, and the magnet was in the bracket.

I haven't taken mine out recently, so I haven't actually looked or checked for which part is magnetic.

Just a metal clip on the left side of the divider. Sometimes they do fall out.

Steve to the rescue - AGAIN!!!! Thanks Steve. To other members of the X150 Forum. If you own a vert. The best after market investment you can make is the thejaguarwrangler.com remote convertible top controller!!

Thank you for the replies. The metal clip is in place. I will try to confirm the magnet is there as well. If it is then I guess it's on to the switches.

There is no magnet and no microswitch. A electronic hall sensor is used to detect the presence of ferrous metal in the clip.

The hall sensor is in the housing adjacent to the clip when the cover is fully deployed. First make sure its connector is in place and the wires are not damaged.

Thank you so very much WhiteXKR! The sensor was out of position. The local Indy shop wanted $1300 for a harness with two switches, one on each side plus an estimate of $500 for labor. It took me five minutes with your help.

So you thought it was going to tell you how to get your top down on the nice day each year in MSP? Sorry.

What if it's broken completely off? I don't have the edge piece nor the clip anymore. Is there a remedy for it?

At this point it may be best to replace the entire divider if it is in such poor condition, Jaguar part number C2P5085. Available from any dealer or at a discount from some online dealers such as: https://www.jaguarpartsunlimited.com...-cover-c2p5085

If you bypass the need for the divider, putting too much stuff in the trunk can cause damage to the top that will cost far more to repair than a new divider.

You have just gotten the best available advice regarding convertible tops that is available on this Forum and probably better than any you can receive on the web. Furthermore, check out his remote convertible top controller, particularly with the rear window control accessory. It is the best accessory that you can ad to your vert.

Any chance you could post pics of the sensor . I am trying to figure out where to tape the metal so i don’t get the ‘luggage cover out of position ‘ message .

Could you please help me figure it out with pics and all ?

Take your luggage cover out and verify the clip, as shown in post #5, is there. Pretty sure that’s the left side of the luggage cover.

The top on my 2011 XKR has been working fine until today. When I try to lower it the windows go down but nothing else happens. I think that the next step should be un-clamping the bow of the top from the windshield. I don't have the divider in the trunk, it was missing when I bought the car and it has a steel nut taped in the gap in the hall sensor. I can feel the magnet in the sensor pull on the nut when I take it out and replace it. I have checked the fuses for the logic, the rear quarters and the 40A power and they are all good. Any ideas about what could be the problem? Do I need to buy an OBD scanner and if so which is the best one?

First thing to try is a "hard reset", by removing the battery cables from the battery for ~30 minutes. Or if you want to be quicker, once taken off of the battery terminals, touch them together for 10-15 seconds to drain and clear the modules.

The top will likely not work correctly unless you also reset the front windows after the battery reset. Removing fuse 'F8' from between the rear seats for 10 seconds is a quicker way to just reset the convertible top controller.
