Default TPMS fitment question

Well I swapped out my front antenna L to R after getting the "Tire not monitored" message (L front tire). Message was gone for maybe a week then came back, same wheel. So I'm going to check for a short but after 10 years I suspect it's the TPMS.

I plan to buy a set. Here is my question. I understand the U.S. models use the 315 mhz units.

If I search for VDO brand by car, they are around $60/ piece give or take.

If I search for VDO brand by frequency, they can be had for $25/ piece give or take.

Does it matter if I buy TPMS intended for Lexus/ Toyota, if the frequency is the same?

Ok I think I answered my own question. There are universal programmable TPMS and vehicle specific. The programmable ones may or may not work, they claim 95% of all vehicles. I guess I'll just bend over and buy the ones for my XK.

You can use either the VDO SE53001 or the SE53004.
The SE53001 is what came with the OEM wheels, and the SE53004 is a newer version. I bought the SE53004's and they work just fine.

As I have stated in several other threads, these TPMS are an exact fitment to the Jaguar. I had these installed at Discount Tire and the Jag XKR learned the TPMS within 5 minutes.

Best price anywhere. Fast Delivery.

Amazon Amazon

Doubtful you will find a lower price. Don't mess with any other brand or model. Go OEM.

May be a dumb question, but will these work on my 2014 XKR? Most everything I see mentions up to 2013. I have noticed that many parts are the same from at least 2010-2015, but often times descriptions and listings don't go beyond 2012. Is this a correct assessment of what I've been looking at or am I totally off base and everything changed in 2014? Any insight into this will be greatly appreciated. I've only been a Jag owner for a few weeks, but thanks to all of you here, I feel like I know WAY more about my car than the average car owner.

I want to say the frequency changed around then.

Still not completely for sure, but after checking a few different parts sites, it appears Jaguar combined all of the old part numbers into one part number covering a number of models from both Jaguar and Land Rover. I found some refurb units, but while they claim to be compatible with the XK from 2007-2014, it says that compatability for the XKR is only 2007-2011. It doesn't make sense that Jaguar would make a change like that only on the XKR, but stranger decisions have been made. Since I can go to the tire shop and have them test whether or not the sensors are working, is it reasonable to expect that the tester can determine frequency as well?

The Siemens VDO SE53001 is not the correct fitment for a 2014 XKR.

The following TPMS are compatible with your 2014 XKR. I would suggest staying away from the Oro-Tek TPMS as I had a very bad experience with the brand.

Amazon Amazon

This should help.

Well thanks again Richard. I did find them a bit cheaper, but not by much.

I installed them but the car wouldn't recognize them on a 20 mile spirited drive, so I had to pull out SDD and recalibrate. So good for another 10 years.

It's what your dealership uses. I own it as I do most all of my own repairs, except where limited by skill set (I don't do body work) or lack of tools (I no longer have welding equipment for exhaust work)

Has anyone ever simply disconnected the system? My "TPMS" consists of my eyes and a high-quality tire gauge, and after a cross-country trip I am pretty much done with the "Check Tyre Pressure" warning light, which seems unconnected to physics or reality.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I recently started having issues as well with the TPMS on my car. First it said one tire was low, then said later the same day it was fine but another tire was low. So I checked and the second tire was in fact a little low. Then the warning went away for a day then came back again saying instead that there was no reading for that tire. Then the next day nothing. Then today I get the warning again for two tires. It did suddenly drop 30 degrees in Texas today, but this is all pretty annoying. It would seem to me if something is going bad, it's the receiving end since it seems unlikely all four TPMS sensors would suddenly go bad in a matter of days. Any ideas?

You can disable TPMS via the CCF file in IDS/ SDD.
