Default Transmission and rear axle oil change.

My xkr has 70,000 on the clock. Don't know if oil has been done in the automatic transmission. As i do the engine oil change, brake pads etc myself i have no problem with mechanical jobs.

1: Is it time to change the trans oil if so how too and type of oil.
2:The rear axle/diff what do i need to do to service it.
Any answers welcome.

If you do not already have it, you may want to acquire the X150 Workshop Manual that contains all the fluid specifications along with procedures for draining and refilling the gearbox and final drive unit.

The manual is available in electronic format from various vendors including those on eBay.

If you want to keep the car for an extended period, you are overdue on those
two items.

Have the manual and i see how the gearbox is done, but can't see the diff drain plug. It say's no drainage plug, a sealed unit. Is this a sealed unit or how do i drain it.

My dealer changed the differential fluid in my XK - not sure how they did it because there is indeed no drain plug, but the fluid used was part number JLM21847, 2 litres or 2 bottles, (fully synthetic, that I know but not sure of the weight). The work order says "Drain and refill Diff"; the total cost was $185 and this was done when the car was at 45,086 kilometers (about 28,000 miles). The fluid was reported to be clear on draining.

So can get the filter and oil easy, not expensive and the rear diff seems to be just a matter of taking out the filler plug, drain oil and refill, all through the same hole,

Found a video on doing the transmission so looks handy enough.
This is another interesting video on changing the oil in a ZF6HP Transmission
