Default Transmission Service

Just received a quote for my BMW Dealership ( Jag Dealer is about a 2 hour drive ) about doing a transmission service, pan drop, new pan with transmission fluid.
$800, is this about average as to what's out there.

Sheesh you guys stateside pay through the nose

I've booked mine in at a ZF Master Centre in July and the cost (after UK forum discount) is £400 or $540 of your USD

For that they slow flush the whole system so 98% of the old fluid is removed, and drop replace the pan too

Only 2 x such centres in the UK though, so a 800 mile road trip

PS: It always help to do a forums search, not really required in this case as the one below is also on the front page of the forum like yours:

Shame on you JB

I was watching that discussion, but wanted to see it in US Dollars, not pounds and wanted to see if anyone used someone other than a Jag dealer.
I'm sure I can get it for less if I go to a couple of independents in town, that service Jag's, but if a dealership is close to the same I don't mind paying a few $$ more.
The BMW dealer I went to said they don't service other vehicle makes and was not aware that our Jag's had similar transmissions, he had to ask the Service Manager , who said "no problem"
I didn't think the price was to bad considering it was a Jag.

I did reach out to an indie mechanic before going to the dealer, but he said he didn't want to do the job because of how complicated and involved the procedure is. His shop focuses on German cars by the way. There is another good indie mechanic further away that works on Jags, but I didn't know that at the time. I'm sure he would have been cheaper than the dealer but by how much I don't know.

Parts / fluid included I paid about $250 at my local garage... which is conveniently attached to my house.

If you planning to keep your toy for a long time and have reduce / trouble free life out of any transmission its worth doing and doing it often is better than not doing it at all!

I paid less than $200 at an Import Specialist shop, but I supplied the pan, sleeve and fluid.
