Transmission slipping problem

Hi all,
I was driving to work this morning, stopped at a red light and accidentally depressed the paddle shifter while stopped. I didn't think anything of it but when I went to resume speed (I was turning right) the engine raced and I barely moved. I pulled halfway onto the shoulder and the engine died. I put the car in park and it started right back up.
Does anyone know if hitting the paddle shifter could have caused this or if the car could slip out of drive because I was resting my hand on the gear shift?
This is an automatic 2007 XK.
Thanks for any input.

Marie,
Any more problems with the transmission? Did you have it in regular or sport mode? Did you happen to notice what gear it was in when you pulled away from the light? If you had bumped it up to a higher gear by accident that might explain the problem???
