China is a Communist country that is not a friend of the USA. There is no free enterprise, and every Chinese business operates under the watchful eye of The Party.

China has stolen our trade secrets, hacked our government and military, destroyed our steel and other manufacturing industries, oppressed minorities, used child labor, militarized the Spratly Islands, reneged on Hong Kong and suppresses free speech, threatens Taiwan, and most importantly blocked the investigation by the World Health Organization into the origins of the virus that causes COVID-19.

When you buy from China, you're an accomplice to the above offenses. Saving a few bucks is the exact same greedy motivation of those American companies who offshored their manufacturing operations for cheap China labor, only to lose their trade secrets and jobs for Americans.

I know it's not easy, but I try to buy whatever I need that is made by Americans and our friends around the world. I see no reason to support our enemies, and most of my fellow veterans agree with me.
While I'm not a veteran, I whole heartedly agree.

Smile Brand names tires are fewer than you think

Well I am going to throw my 2 cents in here just because. As one of the respondents posted, type of oil and tires are the most talked about things on these forums. :-). I have a MY14 XK and with a rear wheel drive car I was looking at getting the best summer tires I could afford. See what I did there? That means I don't want the tire that will never hold the road except in the driest conditions or on the track. I have to drive in the real world and I live in the North East of America, so it rains and it gets cold quickly sometimes. So I wanted a tire that at least was good in the wet and had reasonable ride comfort and quietness. Now that I changed out the exhaust the quietness is not that important. But good handling is. So I looked at the tire reviews and performance test on Tire Rack and other places like consumer reports and choose tires that gave me the best bang for the buck on dry, wet, braking and handling without breaking the bank. the Mich's are fab tires, but I am not going to the track very often so I don't need that kind of performance All the time. So I picked the tire that a lot of members here seem to like, the Hancook Ventus EVO2s. Since I had them on the car when I purchased it I did not change them. I had them on other cars previously, but those cars I had winter wheels and tire setup. So the first time it got cold and had to drive it my baby it was nightmarish. I knew right then another set of tires was coming. I liked the ride, stick and performance of these summer tires and the comfort on long trips was really good, and they good gas mileage and wear. So last spring I started looking for another set of wheels. The XK came with 19s and I figured I could be HP All Seasons on the 19s and find some used 20s and put the slightly larger size summers on those. That is just what I am doing now. Found some HP Vredstein All seasons at Tire Rack, very highly rated and decent cold and rain performance. I just found some good condition OE Kalimnos 20 wheels and will go back to the Hancooks for the summer treads. I have purchased many HP tire brands over the years, Falken, Dunlop, Pirelli, B.F. Goodrich, Firestone, Bridgestone, Yokos and Coopers. Most other brands are offshoots of the Big Four. Conti, Mich, Goodyear and Bridgestone, Mich owns so many sub brands, like B.F. Goodrich. Firestone is a sub of Bridgestone, Cooper tires was just bought last month by another company, So you are really not going to get a bad tire from any of them. Stores like Costco or Sam's club or Pep Boys have their tires made by these big factories with their name on them. The don't make them differently, just change the mold where the names are. Happy motoring. If you come to Long Island NY we can all take a drive. JDCLI (Jaguar Drivers Club of Long Island) has lots of events some for fun, others more serious like the Concours d'Elegance in Sept. and next year we are hosting JCNA AGM. So plan ahead.

Thanks @Stuart S ! I agree. I won’t go so far as use the word enemy but certainly there are good world citizens, and not so good ones. And I won’t support the not so good .

One symbol of China is the Dragon, a mythical creature that exudes power that is part of the Chinese Zodiac. Another Zodiac symbol is the Tiger, and that's what China really is today - a powerful predator that you don't see coming after you.

If you don't see China as an enemy of Canada, read this and think again:
https://financialpost.com/diane-fran...to-act-like-it

Canada is not the only country with naive and incompetent leadership.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-chin...s-under-biden/

China figured we'd do nothing if they took the Spratly Islands and Hong Kong, and they were right. Next stop, Taiwan.
