Hi, I have the BBS rims on my car with the Pilot A/S 3 tires. I don't like the wheels and they are all corroded. The tires are OK but I'm a huge Goodyear Assurance Comfortread fan. I put them on my last car and I just love them. They're smoother than the michelin's that were originally on the car and they perform better in all conditions. They wear a whole lot longer too. I plan on replacing the wheels first, just because I don't like them. The tires still have 40 or 50 thousand miles of tread life left in them so I won't be replacing them soon. But when I can I'll switch to the Comfortreads (assuming they're still available).

My car has the BBS wheels and the Pilots because it supposed to be a higher speed wheel and tire option (Z rated tires). But in the US I can't drive over 75 anyway so there's really no point to them. The basic double-7 spoke wheels and the Comfortread tires will suit me just fine.

Happy shopping.

Tropic Cat......As best I can tell; you have BBS "Detroit" Wheels, which are normally 20" Staggered Wheels....If they are "Corroded" or "Beat-up", they can be repaired fairly easy. New, they probably cost around $1,000.00 a piece, so don't throw them away because you don't like them! Usually, they increase the value of the Car by several Thousand Dollars, but if you don't like them then it's your call. As far as the "Goodyear Assurance Comfortread" goes....I've never heard of it but if you love them so much, you should buy a set...but I forgot: "You've got 40 or 50 thousand miles of tread life left in them so you won't be replacing them any time soon!" Also, I don't recall ever seeing any Double-7 spoke Wheels made for the XK8....You've got a real problem! Can't imagine how you will be able to work it out?
You never know...........

I just bought the car. It only has 45K miles on it. The wheels are 18" BBS 5 spokes. They came with the car and I just don't like them. I've shopped and they can be had for $750 a piece. As far as refurbishing them goes I don't think it's worth it. The double 7 wheels I prefer are shown below. New ones (18") can be had for around $300 a piece.

As far as driving the car goes I'm struggling with a 'Spider' Heater hose replacement problem at the moment. I've been struggling with this stupid problem since the day I bought the car. But thanks to one of the members of this site I think I now have a plan of attack for replacing it. As soon as the heater hose is replaced (plus whatever else I get forced to replace in order to facilitate that) I'll be ready to drive the car. Here's hoping anyway.

I purchased the cheapest tires I can find, MileStar MS932 XP+ from discount tire direct. $500 for all 4 tires. driven maybe 4,000 miles on them already from what I could tell they are a great everyday driver.

stran0020,

Keep us posted on the Milestar's...It would be interesting to know how well they stand-up and for how long.....If they will stand-up in AZ's heat they should be good anywhere....probably the same Rubber material as the Barum Bravuris Tire....You never know, could be the same as the Extreme Contact Sport....Hey you never know anymore.......This Tire at Discount Tire down the street runs $108.00 and $148.00 for 20"'ers! Guaranteed for 40,000 Miles. Probably the best deal in Town! I just paid $247.00 & $298.00 for Extreme Contact Sport.....Boy did I get a deal or what? "Middle Finger" is an "Or What!" Let us know all about them......are they loud? Keep us Posted.....

Send us a Photo of one mounted!

Tropic Cat,

If your current Wheel is a BBS "Detroit" and you don't like them, you should be able to work a Trade....I've just never seen a 18" "Detroit"....but that doesn't mean anything...put them up on the "Marketplace" and try to trade them.......................I'm not sure how much the 18" BBS's would bring...but I'll bet you would have a bunch of inquiries...Good Luck!

Default This is the Milestar Tire

I just went to Discount Tires to check out the "Milestar Tire's for my 20" BBS "Montreal" Wheels...I found a great looking Tire with a nice "Tread Pattern" for a very reasonable price:.
Fronts: 255X35 -20: $108.00
Rears 285X30 -20 $148.00

Now tell me, Did I miss a good deal or what?

That all depends upon how those tires hold up. If they are shot in 15,000 miles, you should be glad you did not purchase them....

Hey Billy, here are some pictures of the Milestar's Mounted. I paid $520 for the set, I price matched them at Discount Tire, paid $88 and $125 per tire I believe. Mounted at 153,9xx miles and car now has 156,900 miles. So have done roughly 3,000 miles on them so far. I daily drive my XKR 72 miles a day at least 4 times a week. Usually going 90MPH. I have also done a few burst to 120MPH-130MPH. I haven't had any issues with them so far. Do keep in mind though this is my first performance oriented car and I'm not racing the car just doing regular street driving. Depending on how many miles they last I could purchase another set and still be ahead considering how much other tires cost.

stran0020,

Some Tire Company made these Tires....which one I don't know, but it could well be Continental for all I know....If so, you got a Set for about half what I paid for my new Continentals....What a deal for you! Now it's your job to determine what Company actually made those Tires! I would really like to know! Regular Street driving is what 95% of us do, so it would be nice to know how they stand-up! Oh! and who made them....Oh, by the way.....Are they quiet on the Road or do they Hummmm real loud? I noticed you have locks on those Wheels! One of the smartest things you could have done!

MRomanik,

Thanks very much for sending this "Clip"! Very enlightening!
I can see where most of us, including me have been a little "Brand-washed" when it comes to Tires! After thinking about it, they are all made pretty much the same way and all are made of similar materials....
Thanks for "Waking me up"! I paid at least twice as much for my Continentals!

I just replaced the OE Kumho tires on my wife's Hyundai Tucson with Cooper CS 5 Grand Touring tires. $600 out the door at Discount Tires.

^^^^^^^ This !

I've found that to pass a car going 70 mph, & as quickly as possible for safety’s sake, that I’m always going at least 100 - 110 mph before getting back in my lane.

If the rims are all the same width then that would account for the same tyre size all round. If not, it may be the tyre fitter didn't know any different? My car came with 245 all round on 18" staggered rims
I finally got around to checking: You were right! The front rims are 8" wide and the rears are 9" wide. I'll be going back to factory specs with the 245 on the front and 255 on the rears (currently 255 all around). The tires are 10 years old - the date code was stamped on the inner sidewall. (4911).

New plates are in the mail (finally!) and I'll have to pass inspection within the seven days. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,
Norm

I'm all for the car being proper and running clean, but I'm so glad that in Ohio (or my local counties) we don't have to do e-check. Licensing is much easier too.

I'm looking into getting my rims repaired today. Then I'll put new tires on the rear. Mine look like they were over inflated and the tread in the middle is thin on the rear. The fronts look ok.
It was like that when I got it almost 2 years ago. I'm still debating about the brand but I won't be getting summer only tires, 245f 255r is the combo I have. TM

I’ll be buying another set of tires soon too. Both previous sets have the same wear pattern as yours with the classic symptom of overinflation. I’m not comfortable with lowering the pressure beyond the “comfort” setting guidelines, so this wear pattern is becoming the standard for my car. The center tread wear is not substantially more the edges, just enough to tell their is a difference.

I’ve tried BFG Comp 2 A/S and Pirelli P-Zero all seasons. I’ll keep experimenting with different brands until I’ve tried them all. So far I’ve been pleased with both the traction and wear characteristics of the two brands tried.
