Sorry, they are just some hoses and such that I had laying around the shop. The major problem was the heat of the extracted oil. If you get the oil warm and not HOT, you'll probably have better luck. Cold, it wouldn't suck much at all.

I ONLY intend using it for draining engine oil.

My question was aimed at whether thorough cleaning (as recommended in the User Manual) is absolutely necessary for the continued correct operation of the Mityvac or if emptying alone is sufficient. Your first reply to this suggests you've not had any issues just emptying it .......

I don't have a Mityvac instead I have a cheapish manually operated Chinesium pump I bought several years ago, similar to this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/27490863263...Bk9SR7rk47W-Yg

I have used it about 10 times now, manually emptied it every time, never once bothered to clean it and never had a problem with it.
Unless you intend to use the pump to fill instead of extract I see no point in cleaning it out as that achieves four fifths of f-all.

I only ever use my mityvac for evacuation, never used it for filling, so have I never cleaned it. Re the hoses collapsing while evacuating, the oil is obviously way too hot. To aid evacuation you only need warm up the engine, this will speed up the process, but it’s not necessary.

In post #17 I wrote that I'd just purchased a Mityvac 7201 and I appreciate the cleaning advice received in replies.

It was from Amazon. The first one arrived with a broken clip on the top of the pump. The replacement arrived today ..... also with a broken clip on the top of the pump.

I'm now going to use Cee Jay's solution but with one difference. It WON'T be sourced from Amazon.
