Soap for a good fabric convertible.
I noticed a lot of chatting switches from soap to detergent easily, by saying to use mild detergent without additives. I prefer a KISS solution. A liter of hand soap from Walmart, put some in a small bucket of water and massage the mix into the wet roof using a quality paint brush. I just did it and will check the results.

The hoods are made out of wool. So , as I've always done for my cashmeer sweaters, a great Elseve (not sure you have this brand in the US) or Redken shampoo would be my choice. In the past that's what I've always done to my previous convertibles (saab 9.3 and mercedes CLK).Then a great hood water repelent treatment.
Yes, shampoos are even milder. Now just to find a fabric water repellant treatment to boost the existing water repellant with the least amount of chemicals. Would a WR for suede shoes work well?

Why not just use a product MADE FOR the top instead of trying to figure out something else that may even permanently damage things?
The 303 products seem to be for tops in the last 25% of their lives. Tops that leak, and look weathered. The treatments seem aggressive.
What do you do to a top, at the end of its first 25% of its life span.

I use 303 for my top. I tried 'Ragtop' but didn't like it as well.
