Default Valve cover bolts/studs

Hi, I'm considering replacing the valve cover gaskets on the 4.2L engine, as when I changed the spark plugs a couple months ago I remember seeing some oil pooling at the bottom of the spark plug well.

The question is, is there a diagram or picture somewhere that shows the bolts and studs exact locations on the valve cover? As some are just bolts and others are longer studs. I was originally planning on just making a sketch to remember which ones goes where, before removing the cover, then reassemble following that sketch.

However lately, the more I dive in the engine, the more I spot things that previous owners have done which are wrong or not done to a standard I would like to see for such a car. And end up undoing what was done, to redo it properly. Because of that, I'm starting to have doubts on those valve cover bolts/studs, and if they have ever been removed in the past and put back in at the correct locations.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

The service manual (available in the stickies at the top of this forum) shows the location of each, as I was able to use that to order replacements when I dealt with an oil leak from my left hand valve cover.

Cheers, the service manual has been my bedtime story for weeks now, always something new to learn in it. I must have missed it then, could only find the tightening order but not the actual position of studs and bolts.

Will flick through the manual again then.

Replace the VVT solenoid grommet while you're at it.

All studs / bolts are identical in length expect for the one near camshaft sensor .

If you put the longer one in it will crush your sensor and there is also a correct torquing sequence

Thanks for that, I didn’t know about the one near the camshaft sensor! Will keep this in mind when I get around to do the job.
