Default Voluntary emissions recall j038

I recently received a letter for a voluntary emissions recall J038. The condition is described as "A concern has been identified with the engine calibration software of vehicles identified above, which can cause the engine malfunction indicator Lamp (MIL) to illumninate. This condition will have no effect on the vehicles's performance, but can reduce the vehicle's ability to control tailpipe emissions." I am not planning on bringing my car in until I require any additional service. I'm assuming it's no big deal and after the software for the Engine Control Module is updated it should not effect the car's performance. Am I assuming correctly?

Default jo38nasl

Just had my 2012 XK in for its 24 month service (7070 miles).
The service adviser mentioned it and I just checked the service report:

Performed technical bulletin jo38nasl; updated ecm option code c.
I haven't noticed any changes in performance.

Great service from San Diego European Motorcars.

I am going to have them check for software updates for the battery system at the same time as I just put in the 3rd battery in a 3 1/2 yr old 2010xk. Don't know if there is any type of connection there but have read that some of the 10's have some software problem where the electric system keeps running the audio after the car has been locked down ?am I correct here? If not I am hoping new AGM battery does better. thanks

Got my letter Sat. I'm having to take my XK in for service on the electronic emergency brake which won't engage (better than it being stuck in the on position) this week anyway so I will get this TSB taken care of then - needs its yearly emissions check this month also.

bobdr1,
3rd battery in a 3 1/2 year old XK! Something has to be wrong. Let us know what they find and post it on a thread dealing with battery usage. There was a software up-date dealing with the "battery management system" on the 2010s as I remember having it done, but it may have been dealing with the battery in the key fob. Maybe somebody on this site can clarify that.

I presume those of us with flashed ECUs need to be careful here?

I believe there is a TSB for a battery module update for 2010 XKs. I know mine was done before I purchased the car. I also modified my CTEK 3300 charger to be hooked up to a ground (instead of the battery's negative post) so as not to interfere with the functioning of this battery module.

Mine goes in this Thursday since I needed an oil change anyway. I haven't had any MIL light or other problems from it up to this point.

I am checking in with Eurocharged Performance to see if they can provide the J038 software upgrade through their ECU tune package.

Personally, I prefer to have Jaguar keeping their hands off my car unless any light comes on. During next year's oil change, I guess I'll have them do it.

The "nas" in that code would imply North American Specification, so probably not relevant to those of us with non-NAS vehicles. The only recent recall I can see in the UK is suspension-related, for only 89 vehicles (but includes the R-S GT!).

Do I have to go to the dealer for this recall? Much prefer my local shop's team working on my car. J038 recall.

When the dealer does it, so far as I have seen, they put a sticker on the inner fender to identify that the car has been updated. I had my car in the other day and they just did it without telling me until after they were done. So if you don't get the sticker, the dealer will check it anyway.
