1. Install new exhaust
2. Start pushing your XK more and more because of the lovely engine note it now has
3. Engine mounts decide to leave the chat
4. You get scared your torque converter is damaged because vibrations were so severe!
5. Pay another 500$ for 2 new OEM engine mounts (I wasn't able to source the 3rd one)
6. Get even more frustrated because now, with new engine mounts, you have a nasty exhaust drone noise @1200rpm
I don't have any insights on the strap on the engine mount, but I feel for you on the idea that sometimes we don't even get to experience much enjoyment on fixing one thing before another issue creeps up. That sucks.
But you have to admit, there is a little dopamine hit of pride every time you fix something. And every thing fixed, you "feel" a difference in the car, even if you don't feel a difference. Ya feel me? 🤔😎
Sorry about the mounts. Good luck getting everything corrected.
P.S. Does anyone know what is the point of that black strap that is surrounding engine mounts?
From your picture, it looks like it holds a grey gasket in place, so it doesn’t get lost in shipping.
An old one appears in the upper right of your picture. I’d guess you remove the strap before installation.
Installed the XKR muffler on the XK. Took less than 1 hour start to finish. Much easier than I expected. No vacuum valves - the outside pipe flap is permanently open. At $225 for the muffler (used but cleaned up with a Brillo pad to the chagrin of some), and $60 for the diffuser (brand new factory Jag part), this is a great upgrade. Just enough throaty sound when you step on the gas. The only downside is this muffler has a negative impact on gas mileage. LOL. It makes you want to hear it !
If anyone wants/needs the vacuum control units, you can have them - just a few $ to cover shipping.
I also added the chrome XKR fender vents. Visually, I think it makes the car look just a little shorter and breaks up the long length of the car. Just IMHO.
Well actually yesterday, finished installing oil pressure and temperature sensors that I had sitting around for almost 8 years, just waiting for me to get to them. Attached to my HKS Camp2, I can now monitor these additional items.
I’ll add additional details in the old Camp2 thread, but have guests coming this weekend, so it will be sometime next week. Also, these photos were just after startup while sitting in the garage after installing them, I’ll get a chance to see what they look like while driving sometime next week. Showing oil pressure and temperature readings, car is not warmed up yet. This is probably what I’ll normally display, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery voltage.
Ever since I got the car, I've had trouble with the cruise control. It would turn on okay, but then after driving for a little while, it would suddenly stop with an error sayin: The radar sensor is blocked. After that, I couldn't use the cruise control again until I restarted the car
What was the issue? These rubber grommets were perished, causing the whole unit to move around. I replaced them, tightened the screws, and now it's fixed. My adaptive function works now as well!
If your cruise control is acting up, check if the sensor is securely mounted! I was able to do it from underneath the car without taking off the front bumper.
I suspected my 3 year old flooded battery was starting to fade as had a few recent random dash messages for TPMS and airbag faults. Installed a new AGM from Walmart and all seems well. A good value I think at $180 with a 4 year replacement warranty.I need to come up with a better positive terminal cover as my old one doesn’t fit well.

any issues with the boot cover fitting, with the AGM? I installed a AGM Interstate, and my cover didn’t fit.

Just today I installed an Interstate AGM (from Costco). Easier job than I expected (using, as suggested, some lumber to make it easy to slide that sucker out). Fit just fine, replacing my 7 year old Bosch AGM (also Group 49 / H8). New battery Old battery

No problem fitting the forward bulkhead cover. The H8 size battery is about 1/2 inch taller than the specified T8 battery, but still plenty of room. What size battery do you have as it shouldn’t matter if it is AGM or flooded?
Make sure your battery is fully seated in the hold-down well as there are a couple brackets it can hang up on.
Mike,
i believe the AGM was the same Interstate from Costco that Kj is using. The four fasteners for the cover would not align with the threads properly, and I could tell that the cover was contacting the AGM battery. I decided to bite the bullet, and get a flooded battery from the dealer, which was about $300. So far, this battery has worked fine.

Maybe the shape of the coupe and ‘vert covers are different. No problem on my ‘vert, but you’ve got a coupe.

Don’t understand why it wouldn’t fit right, but glad you got it sorted in any case. Fresh battery brings peace of mind!!
My car is a coupe so can’t say if convertibles might have different clearances.

Ok, so you have coupe, and an H8 AGM fit fine.
I have a ‘vert and an H8 AGM fit fine.
Makes me wonder if the problem battery wasn’t seated properly, as mentioned as a possibility above.
But no matter now, as the OP found fitment with a different battery.
Took a drive, stopped at Lowe's for a minute, started 'er up again and the dreaded BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
Yay for me.
No, it's not the battery nor the fuse. Yippie for me.
No audio, no faint images, no touch. AC is stuck on.
Now, do I suck up all the non-available-OEM crap with a 'Tesla' screen, or just get another stock one? I'm more tempted to go the Mr12Volt way, in all honesty. That'd need a new OEM, and I'm really 75% satisfied with the stock stuff with an Android Box for the Torque gauges.

I've had that happen to me twice. So far thankfully powering down the car, waiting a few moments, and restarting it has resolved it but I dread the day that stops being a solution. By the way, I have a full Android screen kit, working, on great condition of you want it. Came out of my most recent XKR purchase last October. I just wanted the OEM stuff since I was familiar with it after 2 prior XKRs. $400 shipped in the US.

Yikes - hopefully comes back like resident-fng said.
I bought a used display a while ago in case of the dreaded event.

Keep me in mind, I gotta get the screen operative before I can do anything else.
