what is this part dangling on a string?

Hi,

When taking the XK for a spin this evening, I noticed this part hanging in the passenger seat... looks to be broken although i have no idea why or how that happened... anyone knows what it is.. ? might try some glue (will that help) to fix it..

That looks like it is from the glove box.

Open the glove box, does it fly down or does it glide down slowly.

yep... glove box latch is spot on!
The steel pin says it has already been repaired once..... I'm guessing the break point seen will be very difficult to repair...
