Default At what revs do you

Looking at the recent post with the XFR-S video it got me wondering at what revs do you down shift. It seems the video has the driver downshifting at high revs thus getting some of the over run in the exhaust. I have yet to down shift at revs over 3K so my over run has been not as loud as the video but will try it and see what I get. I have just turned 14K miles and the exhaust seems to be getting louder . Just wondering if anyone is getting the same results.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If it is purely racing/results then you'll downshift at pretty high RPM's which will yield the best in terms of performance and "cool sound" at the cost of wear/tear on the engine and clutch/transmission but will "sound cool"... if your goal is longevity then you'll downshift at much lower RPM's. Same said for upshifting in that you'll press the accelerator much more and wind out each shift more if your goal is purely the best acceleration but at the cost of gas consumption and slightly more wear/tear. Everything is a compromise

I think that the overrun is more pronounced in the XFR-s/XKR-s exhaust setup. Mine (with x pipe) grumbles on downshift even in drive, and there is a lot of overcrackle downshifting in sport (whether manual or fully auto) mainly if my foot is then fully off the gas. In fact, mine grumbles away as soon as you take the foot off, even if it hasnt downshifted. But for manual downshifts, if I was downshifting for engine braking say at a sharp bend on a twisty road, I might downshift a little over 3000, but for acceleration I wouldnt downshift over 3000, I dont think.

You can downshift safely at any RPM without risk, because the TCM inhibits downshifts that would over-rev the engine. If you're not braking, the message centre flashes the gear you've tried to select, but the change doesn't happen and the display switches back to the current gear. If you're braking, it will delay the downshift until it can be done without over-revving or locking the rear wheels. The car is smart.

That being said, banging it down the gears just to hear the soundtrack produces a rather neck-wrenching jerk...

Downshifting with decreasing speed? I'll probably downshift at 2500 or so. Maybe 3000? Not uncommon for me to downshift and be in 5000+ RPMs in the next gear. Makes a great sound!
