Default What should I check when buying a 2012 XK

Hi. I'm considering upgrading my 2007 XK to a 2012 XK coupe. I'm curious about what I should know/check from the private seller of the car. Are there any specific problems with the 2012 model year? Thanks for your time.

Default Get Pre-Purchase Inspections

You're considering cars that are 8 years old. You are responsible for doing your own due diligence, and can't rely on CarFax to buy a car because they report only what is reported to them. CarFax is useful to discover reasons to not buy a car. Maintenance history is helpful, but is no guarantee of no problems. Take everything that the seller tells you with a grain of salt, because you're buying it as-is, where-is, with no warranty. The best way to do your due diligence is to pay a knowledgeable professional to do it. A Pre-Purchase Inspection shouldn't cost more than $400, and often that cost and more can be recovered from the Seller based on necessary repairs.

Before you buy it, pay a Jaguar dealer to do a PPI using their Certified Pre-Owned checklist. That way you'll know what's worn and needs replacement (tires, brakes, bushings, supercharger coupler, water pump leaking, leather dashboard bubbling, etc.), all of the stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and which fluids need to be replaced.

Ask that Jaguar dealer for the name of the body shop that they use for paint and collision damage repairs. The X150 is all aluminum alloy and not every shop is Jaguar-certified. Similarly, pay that body shop to do a PPI for any collision or water damage repairs and if they were done properly. And the cost to fix defective repairs.

Don't buy a pig in a poke. Know what you're getting.

If this was helpful, press the "Like" button at the bottom right.

P.S. I see that you're in Finland, so I'm not sure if the Jaguar dealers there operate the same way as in North America. If not, find independent shops that specialize in Jaguars and have the Jaguar SDD diagnostic equipment.

I've got mine 1 year ago. A 2012 XK with a 3 year remaining bumper to bumper warranty. No problems so far.
The full inspection at the Jaguar dealer in Fort Lauderdale FL cost about 280 or so. It really worth it. Good luck with the new car!

Are there any big differences in the model years 12, 13, 14, 15?
