07XK is totalled!! Are the 2010's improved?
After 2 years of proud ownership my 07 Jag XK was trashed by a recent hail storm in Denver. The insurance company has called it a total loss and is offering me a fair settlement. After considering many other cars I still would like to own an XK. I am told by some folks that in 2010 a "major" update occurred which solved the problems I had. Specifically the "dreaded drone" noise at about 1200 rpm ( cost me 900.00 for the brackets installed by dealer), the A/C water drip into passenger foot well and the defective transmission pan leak.
The dealership says Jaguar has addressed all these issues. I would like to confirm this before I purchase another XK. I am looking for a 2010-12 XK or XK R. I would appreciate any info!

I recommend buying the lowest mileage latest model year XKR that you can afford in the colors you prefer and equipped with the options that are important to you and a CPO warranty. May take a while to find "the one" so be patient and good hunting! You can research the differences in model years on Edmunds.com
That's unfortunate--sorry to hear this. How on earth did it get totaled by hail??? Any pics? I wonder if the aluminum is particularly soft in a hail storm!

I've heard none of this 'drone' thing nor had any issues whatsoever with my 10. 3 years of ownership for me, and it's just scheduled fluid maintenance and tires.
510HP has a tendency to be addictive. You should get one. Yes. Come join the dark side.

However, I think a lot of 5.0L Jaguars are having water pump issues, but not necessarily on XKs.

The 2010 has a new engine, 5.0L and new transmission. The front end is slightly different from previous versions as far as cosmetics go. As someone else mentioned, spend time looking for your right one and get the certified pre owned when possible. I looked all over my state and neighboring states, looking for "the one" and never found it. I widened my search and found my baby in Florida at a Jag dealership. It has the Jag Select and they were very helpful during my purchase. Going on almost three years now with no major issues, although I am getting a CEL since changing the two air filters... Go figure
That sucks but good thing you are happy with the insurance settlement. I had a few cars hail damaged to the tune of 5K each and ended up even for it. On a jag related note a pecan dented by trunk last week when I stupidly parked on the "wrong" side of my driveway. I would say the aluminum skins are particularly susceptible to hail damage.
I ran over some hwy trash and got a small dent in the area just behind the right front wheel. Hardly noticeable. I took it to a certified Jaguar repair shop and it cost me three grand for getting that small dent repaired. Just saying it cost big bucks to get a Jag repaired by a certified Jaguar repair center. Looks like new now. Hail damage with lots of dings..........totalled imho. Not worth repairing cost wise.
Go for it. As an ex owner of an 08 and a current owner of a 12 I can attest to the major changes that to me make the 12 a far better car than the 08 which was very good to begin with. Take your time and be very particular about getting what you want. Good hunting!
