Is this familiar? They are based in Australia, don't know how far from you though.

Seems the distance is 1,847 km (by road).
Geelong is about as far south as you can get on the Oz mainland and BGS Classic Cars are in Samsonvale Queensland some 40 km north west of Brisbane so about half way up the east coast of Oz.
So maybe a tad far to go for a squiz and a test drive!

Cheers, Cee Jag and OzXFR. So, it is not an XK model. It has 168k on the odo. Any red flags I should look out for? A dealer is selling it.

It's a 19 year old used car. What could go wrong?

Correct as in Not an /R, but a standard XK.

AU$ is about seventy US cents.

Still a bit high at $28,000 USD. But again as guy stated, different market.

Generally in Australia about twice NZ$ - would be about $20,000 to $25,000 here for that year and Kms

Yep, the Oz used and new car prices are a sick joke especially for so-called luxury imports like Jags, in general around three times what you lucky bar stewards in the US and UK pay. Try $400,000 + for one of the few remaining new F-Type ZP Editions.

Yeah, Z06 cars here from 2024 are about 100k USD, so that's a HUGE markup. Guess you Australian's make do with sand worms though instead.

What I didn't say is WHY the Oz car prices are so ridiculously high, can you spot the main reason in steve-k-xk's last post?
Hint - it's in the small print.
TAX!!!!!!
In that ad posted by Steve the "government charges'' (i.e. taxes) are over $100,000.
Most of that would be import duty (a tariff by any other name), Luxury Car Tax (LCT) and GST and even then GST (10%) is charged on both the import duty and the LCT so taxes on taxes.
To rub salt into the wound the LCT was invented in 2000 as part of the tax reform package along with GST, and it was designed to "protect" Oz car manufacturers by making imported luxury cars more expensive. Only thing is Oz car manufacture ceased in 2017 with the closure of GMH (Holden) manufacturing so the LCT has been completely pointless since then.
But try getting between a Gummint and an established tax which raises squillions.

Sold an Austin Healey 3000 years ago to a group of Ausies storming the US for cars....

Tried to negotiate but I stood firm.....asked if it was proper to negotiate in the States.....I said YES..but the price is very fair....

Bought the car then asked if I Could "discount" the sale price on the title..

Said they had to pay 100% tax when they shipped it home...

God Bless America...
