I know people who work at dealers and they have said that many times, the techs will remove the batteries from trade-ins for their personal vehicle and put their old battery in the dealer car. This is why when you buy from a dealer, you will have to soon replace the batteries. I have bought many cars from dealers, and I would say it has happened to me about 70% of the time that the battery will fail within 6 months of vehicle purchase.
