Default Wider front wheel footprint...

Currently the width of my front wheels are 245's...would there be any discernible difference in handling or mileage by going to a 255 in the front?

I *think* it might reduce gas mileage, but I am also thinking that a bigger footprint will help with handling. However, 10 millimeters might not be enough to make much of a didfference.

I will be moving to 10" wide wheels all around, and am planning on putting either 275's or 285's on back.

Hi there, I hear what you're saying rscultho.

I can't comment on your car particularly but made a similar change to my A6.
I had 225 x 50 x 17's on her and changed to 255 x 35 x 19's so a much wider footprint and a bigger change than you're considering.

I've noticed she certainly seems more "planted" on the road and obviously traction is improved. I do notice a slight drop in mpg but thats to be expected and part of the price you pay I guess.

The 20" fronts are 255.

My Sentas are 255/35/20 on the front and 285/30/20 rear.

Excellent - so you are running a 285mm width tire on a 9.5" width wheel...I should have no problem with a 285 on a 10" wheel.

Love the wide tire stance on the rear!!

Hi, I have just changed my senta wheels for a set of XKRS vortex wheels. Still both 20" but back tyres are 295/30/20 and look fantastic fronts are still 255/35/20. Pictures to follow. Im just about to advertise my senta wheels and tyres on ebay UK, dont know how much they will make.

My 2009 XKR Portfolio Cvt came with 20" Selena wheels and 255/35-20 front tires and 285/30-20 rear tires. I'm amazed that the ride quality is so nice, considering the lack of sidewalls. Beware of curbs, potholes, and other road hazards that can damage the wheels - there is little, if any, sidewall protection from the ultra-low profile tires. Cost to refinish ranges from $50 to $150 or more, depending on extent of damage.
