Default Window switch doesn't work right

2007 XK convertible: driver side window switch doesn't fully work. One-touch up or down doesn't work. Holding switch up sends window up a few inches and it stops. It take about 6 switch activations to fully open or close the window.

I'm not sure where to start looking for issue. I tried window limit setting procedure several times with no change.

Seeing you've tested the limit setting, it's a possible bad switch, motor or window regulator (the assembly that the motor uses to move the window). If you have an OBD that can trigger functions, you can test the switch by electronically triggering the window close. If it works, the switch is bad. If not, listen for a grinding noise as the window attempts to move. If so, bad regulator or motor. If I recall correctly, the limit is controlled by sensing current change in the motor when it reaches it's stops. So, something binding can cause the system to believe it's at a stop when it isn't.

Pull the door panel and watch what happens. Check the track or regulator mechanism for binding. Replacing a regulator and or motor is a pretty easy driveway job. Note that the door panel pins, being pretty old, may break as the panel is removed. Easy to slip new ones in place of the old. Typical, so you should be able to find replacements at your local NAPA.

Regulator/motor is one of those things you can comfortably get from a breaker, since it has no safety issue. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply with your suggestions. I'll look into those things especially binding in the mechanism.

My money is on the actual switch. If our switches are anything like other Euro cars, the internal grease turns to glue which attracts dirt and prevents contact. If you dont have a scanning tool handy, maybe you can swap switch panels from the other door.

But like Panthera said, listen for binding when going up and down.
